Exactly.
Do many actually expect to catch the train 2km to a station likely just as far away from their workplace?
Why not walk, ride, uber or bus for the select few that work in the CBD?
All the rest that work anywhere other than the CBD, eg Bowden, Hindmarsh, Prospect, home or Burnside etc, the train is pointless.

Why would most even want to be close to the train station?

Yes, Bowden was and still is actively promoted as a TOD. Both tram and train lines are a big part of the sell.

Even if people don't work in the city, the easy access to festivals, sport, other events and restaurants would be a drawing factor. The development is targeted at young professionals, so they would most probably work nearby, at home or in the city.

Train and tram would be a great way to get to the footy, and realistically work (if they work in the CBD). On the reverse, those living in the city and want easy access to the Ent Centre or Hindmarsh stadium- well the tram and train are great.
You wouldn't ride your bike at night, and uber/taxi would take longer-be more expensive due to traffic. buses are held up also in traffic.
As for those not happy with the negative connotation of living near a train station, well that is because of the crappy design and amenities of stations in Adelaide. What is being proposed here at Bowden is just more of the same bland boring rubbish.
Where is the newsstand, coffee shop, sandwich bar...etc etc.?-There is a beautiful heritage station just there, it could have been all of this, but no...just another glorified bus stop banged on the corner of the development.

A similiar setup to St Leonards would of suited Bowden fine. The station would be in trench, above the station you could have a McDonalds, Cibo, Australia Post, Woolworths. Include alfresco areas, gardens, trees and water feature.

I was using McDonalds as a example. But in a way Maccas would draw in crowds before and after events at Hindmarsh Stadium and Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Also they are less likely to close down. A place like Cibo wouldn't be too bad either as Id imagine city/nearby workers getting a morning caffeine hit, afternoon caffeine hit or after events nearby especially at night and in hot months people wanting gelati, gelato or/and cold drinks.

I would have thought that for Adelaide's premier Transit Oriented Development something like Subiaco Station would have been the bare minimum.

Several large precast concrete columns were being installed near the junction at memorial drive on Saturday, (but there was no where to stop for a photo).

Precast horizontal concrete beams were being installed on top of the line of piles that had previously been constructed between the Port and Gawler lines to form part of the SW wall of the underpass.

Very bland and unimaginative. Typical Adelaide though! We have a Scrooge government that always takes the cheap and nasty option.

They should be selling the space above the station and having some office building and like already noted some retail, amenities possibly a food court.
