FFS! What has any of this got to do with trams?

The Government wouldn't even use Arrium rails for the Jetty Road tram track replacement!

Did they give a reason for that decision? Wrong type of steel?

Since the rail they replaced would have been rolled in Australia, there's zero technical reason for using imported rail.
The whole of the rest of the line to Vic Square uses standard rail of the type rolled by Arrium.


Even if it were extra cost (unlikely), it wouldn't have been a lot, and the money would have stayed in SA.

I suspect they didn't even think about it.

It's another matter on curves, where the rail groove is needed to assist the tram round the curve. However, Jetty Road is straight, and the groove can just be trowelled in.

If they intend to start the work in August they should already give some advance notice as that will be a mayor interruption in the city...

The "bus priority" corridor, or obahn tunnel/lanes have been implemented.
Proposed tram extension east on North Tce and north towards the Oval are going ahead.
At the rate things get done at present, it will be interesting to see over the next three decades(minimum) how much gets implemented.

Good news. I look forward to the inevitable bitching in the Sadvertiser about the works causing chaos on North Terrace. I wonder if they’ll continue to peddle the ”Tram to nowhere” nonsense?

Then when it’s all done all the naysayers can jump on the “see I knew it would work” bandwagon, just like they did for the Hindmarsh extension (which always seems to be full of people).

I feel like you make these little scenarios up in your head to cure anxieties you have towards these kinds of things... Many of the 'naysayers' who were opposed to the Entertainment Centre extension remain opposed to it, and many that I know who were at first in favour of it question what we've actually gained from it happening (when compared to the gains we would have had if the money were spent on train electrification or tram extensions elsewhere).

I feel like you make these little scenarios up in your head to cure anxieties you have towards these kinds of things... Many of the 'naysayers' who were opposed to the Entertainment Centre extension remain opposed to it, and many that I know who were at first in favour of it question what we've actually gained from it happening (when compared to the gains we would have had if the money were spent on train electrification or tram extensions elsewhere).

My experience in travelling from the Entercentre to the City a few times each week, is that the service is well patronised.

With an election due early next year, there is plenty of scope for others to offer alternative visions for the voters to consider.

There is more than just that occurring as the message states that "works will include the continuation of service locations and geotechnical investigations along King William Road and North Terrace".

I am all for Trams. But the Hindmarsh extension is a joke.

It literally exists to get to a subsidised carpark.imagine if that extension had gone to an area that recieved full fare paying patrons.

The extension of the tram line, and recently announced extensions, are part of a wider tram network that is being built in stages.

If the AdeLink talk wasn't enough of a clue, you'd have thought the map posted above would have lit the light bulbs up..but nope.

If some of those proposals along Port Road come to fruition, it will be a great success. For now I would call it mildly successful, but to be honest I use it quite a bit myself for soccer games and shows at the Entertainment Centre.

The extension to the Entertainment Centre has been a big success imo.
There's thousands of people who use it to get into the CBD. That's thousands of cars that aren't congesting roads and car parks in the CBD daily.
Not everyone who is using it is parking their car nearby. Many people get dropped off near one of the stops, while the person dropping them off goes off to their job.

I agree if they came to fruition. My view is more of an opportunity lost, as I said in favour of trams. So I'd take the extension over nothing.
