A photo of the excations for the lowered motorway looking south from the Grange Rd Bridge taken from the latest T2T newsletter. Apparently, they have already excavated 80,000 cubic metres of fill - that's roughly 1,000 B-Double dump trucks.

The rail bridge was done quickly because it's a current necessity with or without the completed motorway.Llessur2002 wrote:Such......slow......progress. Back in February the T2T enquiries people advised the shared path would be operational by April/May. When I contacted them again in mid-May they advised it would be open late July. Whether or not that actually occurs is anyone's guess.
On the plus side it looks as though there is a funded plan to connect the shared path to the new Torrens Junction shared path by the completion of the Torrens Junction project. I've put details in the Cycling Infrastructure thread.
The pedestrian bridge isn't really a necessity until the motorway is open. It's not really a pedestrian/cyclist friendly area while there's construction and deep excavations going on.
It's not even vehicle friendly at times, when you are trying to do a U turn at the allocated spots and a front end loader comes flying out without giving way, while the lollypop man is having a bludge not paying attention and doing his job. I've nearly been hit four times by front end loaders and backhoes.

DPTI has published a list of the " Top 40 at Grade Arterial Road Intersections for Heavy Vehicle Exposure" at https://data.sa.gov.au/data/dataset/top ... -exposeure
There are a few entries that surprised me (I think Adelaide Metro buses distorted the results from my expectation). But it is worth noting that seven of the 12 Port Wakefield Road junctions in the list will be bypassed by the Northern Connector.
The top ones on South Road are with Grand Junction Road (presumably the traffic lights under the superway) and Regency Road which was announced in the state budget as the next target for going cap-in-hand for the federal government to pay for fixing. Five of the other ten are addressed by T2T, plus Pym Street that I assume will be addressed by the Regency bit. There are four in the list covering the central section of South Road (Richmond, Henley Beach, Sir Donald Bradman, and James Congdon), all in the bottom half of this list.
The bottom of the SE Freeway seems to be the only junction south of the CBD in the top 40.
The list could look a bit different in a few years when T2T, NC and Regency junction have been completed.

They were drilling/pile driving or whatever it's called with one of those big crawler things with the long arm and twisty drill bit on the end, on the northern side of the Torrens/South Rd intersection over the weekend at night from what I saw.
I've been sick at home since so I don't know what's going on at the moment..might go for a drive later and see and report back here but I heard there's a lollypop lady whose pretty mean and doesn't like anyone having a gawk at night.

There's a video in the article.Massive bridges built next to Darlington Upgrade Project in Adelaide
Two 3,000-tonne bridges will be built off the side of the Darlington Upgrade Project in Adelaide and moved into place to avoid traffic disruptions.
Construction on the 180-metre-long bridges has begun between the Southern Expressway and Main South Road, near Marion Road.
The bridges, which will be moved into place over two weekends in October and November, are part of the $620 million North-South Corridor project.

A truly amazing and impressive feat of engineering and construction methodology. Hopefully someone here, if not DPTI, can record it in action. I'd been wondering what the pylons on site were lately.

Not really anything new except an additional slip lane from the expressway to the left side of the lowered road which I suspect is for traffic heading to ayliffes road so they don't have to change lanes into main South road traffic.
The May community liaison report was released and suggests that there will be a traffic switch this coming weekend. Nothing else exceptionally interesting.
