[COM] SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | 55m | 12 Levels | Hotel
[COM] Re: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | 12 lvls | 53m | $330m
Other than it being a shame that more of the station building is getting covered up I don't see any major benefit to a massive reshaping of the precinct such as demolishing the intercontinental. If anyone was really keen to do that kind of building over tracks construction then get going on the west side of the Morphett Street Bridge.

The Intercontinental building doesn't need to be demolished, but it would certainly benefit from modernisation. A fresh facade and upgraded public spaces, as Nathan said on the previous page, would significantly improve its image and better integrate it with the Riverbank precinct.

Not sure if its possible, but given the lift overruns go a good two or three levels above the roofline, I wonder if there is access to the rooftop? An outdoor bar at the very top of the building overlooking the Riverbank and Adelaide Oval would be an awesome view and tourist attraction.

Since we are discussing it, does anyone know the floor layout of the Intercontinental Hotel? Is there a diagram of any description available?
I would love to re-create the building in 3D to see what improvements could be made to the facade.

It's a monstrosity that hasn't stood the test of time(however short that time has been..)Ser Noit of Loit wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2017 10:34 pmI'm guessing the trains would all converge and stop where they still do and always have under the station building. I can't see Intercontinental being demolished for a long time since it's used to much in marketing photos of Adelaide, is one of the symbols of the city and our flagship hotel.rev wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 3:36 pmWhile it's good they've finally given approval for something to happen I can't help but feel this is a missed opportunity.
IMO the Railway station building should be turned into a boutique 5 star hotel or museum. The Interconinental and Riverside Center should be demolished and replaced with a purpose built casino entertainment complex that incorporates a new hotel leased to InterContinental.
All the more reason it should be demolished and replaced, given it's prominent location of the typical Adelaide post card photo..

I believe confirmation of the rooftop bar/restaurant was part of the amended plans released this week (and part of the extra $30,000,000).[Shuz] wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2017 1:09 pmNot sure if its possible, but given the lift overruns go a good two or three levels above the roofline, I wonder if there is access to the rooftop? From memory, there was contingency for it in the original plans - I can recall seeing drawings which included it.

I was talking about the intercontinental. Not the new SkyCity hotel. Although that would be cool too.

I have no problems with the Intercontinental building, I think it's at least one of our few "ok" taller buildings.

I have no problems with the Intercontinental building either.

The main issue with the Intercontinental is the lack of ground level activation. This needs to be fixed. The tower is fine.

Agreed. Activation and integration with the railway station and the casino both need work. The area between the tower and the street generally feels like a no-go zone to me.

That would be good. Currently, the only integration is the bridge that links between the two, right through ARS. Doing so could also link ARS with InterContinental.crawf wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 8:24 pmPerhaps a future extension of the Casino complex?ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:55 pmAgreed. Crown is a good example; the hotel and casino are all part of the same complex. Even if that was masterplanned and the above would be a retrofit, it's a good model.

This is far from being ok in a prominent location in the 21st century.
