A further update from 16/8/17. The top Level ( level 17) slopes on both the north side and the east side as can be seen in the pictures. The east side is not yet complete.

Am I the only one who doesn't totally hate this quirky building? A lick of paint would do it wonders.

Been saying it since the beginning. It's all in the finish. Waiting patiently.Plasmatron wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2017 8:54 amAm I the only one who doesn't totally hate this quirky building? A lick of paint would do it wonders.

I am still waiting for it to be completed. I have never hated it but i might when it is complete.
Do we actually know if it is being painted? Surely it has to with such variation in the concrete, surely!

I'm pretty sure it's been said many times, it will not be painted.
The renderings do not show paint, and the concrete has visible aggregate. No one would bother doing exposed aggregate concrete if they were just going to paint it.

That is what i thought too. But the variation is absolutely shocking, so i would not be surprised if they end up painting it.

I don't think the variation in the concrete is a cardinal sin. The nature of the windows lets it get away with a bit of a patchwork effect. That said, any variation will probably lessen over time.

I'll too reserve my judgement till completion. I neither like it or dislike it but I am intrigued by it.
At first glance, some photos the building appears like the last standing in a war torn country...

I don't mind this building and as Nathan states any variation in colour will fade in time. The building I really hate is stage 2 of the Convention centre, the one that fronts Morphett St bridge and stole one lane of traffic.

What I love about this building is that it really challenges the observer to think.
Our state, our city, our future.

I hate it, it looks even worse in person. Looks like a bunker I saw in Germany.

Sorry, but those Flak towers look amazing, especially the first generation G-Towers. They're like pre-brutalist castles.bits wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 5:15 pmI hate it, it looks even worse in person. Looks like a bunker I saw in Germany.

Hitler would blow himself up in this tower.

I think I'm no longer somewhat taken in by this and back to disliking it.
Why is there that variation in the concrete colour, and why do most of the panels look more grey than white like they're supposed to? If the difference is meant to reduce over time, will the building look more white or grey?
I feel like if the building turns more white, it may look decent as it may contrast more with the dark windows, but the grey just makes it look like some depressing brutalist, Orwellian sort of thing.
