To be fair i need to take some blame as i chose the worst car park umaware of the extent of the traffic

I can understand your situation. I walk past the construction daily, and I see cars blocking the exits to every car park by not observing the signals. That means for some cycles nobody at all gets out of the car park. This is a lack of consideration for others. However, given the State's finances, they should have had police handing out infringement notices for people ignoring traffic lights and stopping people getting out of the car parks. You really aren't to blame when other people are just being dicks.

The short bit of track has been encased in concrete. The Gawler Place/Kintore Avenue intersection has been filled in with asphalt, no tracks yet.

That is true. They would have made a killing.

In hindsight they should have restricted right turns from Rundle onto Pulteney that would have solved 90% of the issues.

Pretty sure it's a temporary measure whilst the southernmost traffic lane is out of use due to the diverted footpath in front of the new student accommodation building - if they'd completed the double track now then there would only be one westbound traffic lane past the new building. The double track exists either side of this small stretch and it's shown as double on the flythrough so I presume this will be completed once the footpath is moved back whence it came.

Surveying and early works have started for the King William Road section.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that Stage 3 of the City Tram Extension Project will occur from Sunday 22 October to Monday 6 November 2017.

Stage 3 will involve the installation of tram tracks along King William Road between North Terrace and the Adelaide Festival Plaza Precinct.

During these works, the following restrictions will be in place:

The u-turn facility near Festival Plaza will be permanently removed.The right turn into Festival Drive will be temporarily removed during construction.Traffic along King William Road will be restricted to two lanes in each direction between North Terrace and the Adelaide Festival Plaza for the duration of Stage 3 works.Access along King William Road footpaths will be maintained.The pedestrian crossing at the Festival Centre will be temporarily removed for the duration of the works.The intersection of North Terrace and King William Street/Road will not be affected.

Tram and bus services will operate as normal.

There will be minimal impact to the Festival Theatre as it is closed for redevelopment and will reopen in December 2017.

The City Tram Extension Project will deliver a one-kilometre extension of the tram line along North Terrace, from King William Street to East Terrace, and a 350 metre extension north along King William Road to the Festival Plaza Precinct.

Stage 4 works are scheduled to commence early next year.

Job lot of "as-new" trams heading to SA

The State Government has spent almost $9 million to purchase three French-made trams that have been held in storage in Spain for almost a decade - but never used - as it moves to increase network capacity with work progressing on an extension along North Terrace.



The Alstom Citadis 302 streetcars are being shipped to Adelaide, with Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan saying the Government saved more than $6 million from its budgeted $15 million on the purchase because they had been originally built for a bulk order in 2008 before being deemed surplus to requirements.

He said they had been part of a 70-car order for use in Madrid by Mintra/MetroLigero, but were placed in storage on arrival and never used.

“The State Government… has been able to negotiate an exceptional deal and value for taxpayers with the three new trams costing less than $9 million,” he said in a statement.

“The trams, stored in Madrid, have never been used in service, have been maintained to a high standard and are in as-new condition.”



He said Transport-appointed engineers had “thoroughly inspected the trams” before the purchase was finalised.

Adelaide already has six Alstom Citadis 302s in service, and Mullighan said “expanding our fleet with the same type of trams will also deliver efficiencies, productivity and operating cost benefits”.

They are due to arrive in Adelaide by mid-December and will “significantly increase capacity on the existing network as well as deliver new services on the Government’s $80 million tram extension along North Terrace to the East End and to Festival Plaza”, Mullighan said.

The extension works are the first stage of a broader expansion, with future stages planned through Kent Town to the eastern suburbs, as well as to Prospect and a larger city loop.

I'm in Melbourne at the moment and every time I walk down one of the CBD streets which has dedicated tram lanes with just one car lane each direction I think of this post.

So we now have to put up with chaos on north terrace for 3-4 months so that the tramline can
be extended to nowhere. Honestly, now that the Rah has closed down, there nothing in the east
end these days. What a disgrace.

I'm curious, what would you qualify as "somewhere"?

The western side of the city is somewhere. Adelaide casino, chinatown, Nrah, hindley street, the laneways, the night clubs, the major hotels, adelaide oval, the festival theatre are all west of king will.

I am already sick to death of getting stuck in traffic at peak hour as a result of this project and we have to put up with it for another 3 months ?
