News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Why do we need bike lanes on East Tce? Surely the proposed Frome St bikeway which runs parallel to East Tce 300m away is sufficient?

Smoke tests!
Here, ex Brisbane Transport 224 (Volvo B10M) is in the tunnel in front of an ingenious 'scratch-made' heat & smoke machine:

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Because city workers riding home to the eastern suburbs will ride along Grenfell Street, to East Terrace, to Rundle Road, as I did daily when I lived in St Morris.

When I'm riding to work, I don't magically teleport from Frome St to my work on East Tce. Frome St is important as a major cycling route, but you still need to provide suitable routes to access everywhere else in the city.

This post says it all about the attitude of some people about cyclists.

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
They cant be serious? Literally from the October project update:
"Works include the reconfiguration of Rundle Road and East Terrace to deliver improved pedestrian and cycling facilities, 50 additional car parks, additional landscaping and upgrade of the existing kerbing and pavement surface."
October's not even finished yet!

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Very odd.
Maybe she misunderstood me, thinking I was asking about a separated bikeway rather than a bike lane (she went off on a tangent about the difficulty of adding things after consultation, and similar issues about adding bike lanes on North Tce with the tram extension). I did refer to the renders though.

Could just be some new bike racks outside of ETC. Do people normally refer to bike lanes as "faciltities"?

The works along east tce and rundle road haven't really added anything
Just a touch up of what was already there
They ripped out a nice island with plants and replaced it with an island with no plants by the looks

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
All communication re progress, opening routes, stops etc, seems to have gone very quiet lately. If they are still planning on a late December opening(maybe December 17th?) I would have thought they might be starting to do some publicity, marketing by now.
With the changes to Currie and Grenfell Streets stops occuring not just O-Bahn services, but also all East-West routes it is going to require a lot of publicity as well as all the O-Bahn changes.

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Well, there won't be much of a change for the average user, it will just be quicker. There will be some transport enthusiasts, interested members of the public and media at the ribbon cutting, a few joy rides and that will probably be it.
My guess for opening day will be 3 December.

I dare say that they would want to get all their ducks in a row well and truly with no exceptions before announcing promotional dates.adelaide transport wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2017 4:23 pmAll communication re progress, opening routes, stops etc, seems to have gone very quiet lately. If they are still planning on a late December opening(maybe December 17th?) This past Thursday had more buses testing the tunnel.

They've been testing the sensor and emergency systems with each kind of o-bahn enabled bus in the fleet. The Scooter Guy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 7:46 pmThis past Thursday had more buses testing the tunnel.
Seems to be going well, but with the complexity of all the safety systems combined with reality, I've been told off the record that there's likely going to be a lot of tunnel shutdowns in the first few weeks of operation. Due to unforeseen combinations of events tripping the safety alarm.
This is good and as it should be. Best to err on the side of safety and investigate what happened, then implement what was learned instead of killing a bunch of people.
Of course the PT hating Sadelaide-Now comment brigade will be poised with their comments of "SEE WE TOLD YOU IT WOULDN'T WORK!", "WASTE OF TAXPAYERS' MONEY!" and the like.
