was walking down Pirie Street to check out progress on East End Living demolition when I noticed this building coming down - just West of City Holden Car Park and The Tivoli. Does anyone know what's planned?

A $12 million redevelopment of St Mary’s College includes a gym on top of a new Year 12 study centre and visual arts classrooms.
Work will start tomorrow on the project, which also includes a new front entrance on Franklin St, a junior play area, digital technology classrooms and a refurbished administration building.
Principal Clare Nocka said the 14m-high gym would be an “impressive addition to the West Tce facade” of the all-girls school.
The gym, with a full-size basketball/netball court, will be separated by the “highest level of acoustic flooding” from the Year 12 study centre and visual arts teaching area on the ground floor.
“I think the design has been very attentive to blending in with the heritage architecture,” Ms Nocka said.
“The wall, for example, in the new section of the build has been designed to blend with the heritage wall and at the front entrance there’s a lot of glazing so it’s very sensitive to the heritage facade of the Boylan (administration) building.”
The existing gym, built in 1996, will be demolished by Christmas.
The project will increase the school’s capacity from 790 to 850 to cater for an influx expected when Year 7 becomes part of high school in the Catholic system in 2019.
It was approved by the Development Assessment Commission in August.

Tenders closed today for student accommodation building at 85-87 Gilbert Street directly opposite the Gilbert Street Hotel. Currently an open car park.

Renewed demand for office space has driven down Adelaide CBD vacancy rates

RENEWED demand for Adelaide office space has driven down the city’s vacancy rate, according to property group JLL, with last year’s take up from tenants the highest in almost ten years.
JLL’s latest office market figures reveal that net absorption - the amount of office space occupied minus newly vacant stock - summed to 8700sqm in the December quarter, reaching an annual figure of 20,900sqm.
That’s the strongest result since 2008.
With renewed demand for office space emerging, and a limited amount of new supply being added to the stock of CBD office space, the vacancy rate has reached a near three-year low of 15.1 per cent.
JLL national leasing director Tom Budarick is predicting that the increased demand for office space will continue this year, putting further downward pressure on vacancies.
“Net absorption wasn’t the only positive story to come out of the Adelaide leasing market in 2017,” he said.
“General enquiry levels have also improved dramatically with total enquiries for office space throughout 2017 almost doubling those recorded in 2016.”
Mr Budarick said recent tenant enquiries for space were being fielded across a number of sectors, including defence and mining.
“The most active industries were financial services, IT, health and medical, defence and defence-related, and mining and resources,” he said.
“With further investment expected in defence and resources and a continued focus on education and health we expect demand to continue to improve throughout 2018.”
Adelaide’s office vacancy rate has been steadily falling since topping out at an 18-year high of 16.9 per cent at the end of 2016.
It is currently sitting at its lowest point since the first quarter of 2015.
Increasing demand from tenants coupled with limited new supply in the pipeline is supporting a market expectation that vacancies will fall further in 2018 and 2019.
Charter Hall’s $250 million development next to the Adelaide GPO is the only major office development currently under construction, with the Attorney General’s department pre-committing to around half of the building’s 24,500sqm capacity.
While Adelaide’s CBD vacancy rate has been steadily declining, it remains higher than the national vacancy rate, which fell 1.5 percentage points in 2017 to 10.4 per cent.
JLL head of research Andrew Ballantyne said white collar employment growth was behind the tightening in the market.
“Corporate Australia has become more confident about the medium-term revenue outlook and this confidence has translated into strong employment growth over 2017,” he said.

This is the site of the former Rays outdoors. The architects have done 2 previous projects for Solitaire so just a stab I would think its Audi.

Most of the brackets are up now on Rundle Street for the festoon lighting so i would think it will be completed before Fringe.

I don't really know where to put this but I heard from a source that the government have turned down the ASO's detailed proposal to convert a potentially vacant Sir Samuel Way building into a concert hall. I think the whole courts precinct needs to be considered beyond the allocated $30m upgrades, the fact that our courts are spread out over a large portion of the Vic Square precinct it's a waste for what should be the heart of the city and therefore full of life throughout the day/night. The ASO are still without a proper home - the town hall is great but not their own, the AFC is a great multi purpose venue but is far too large and acoustically doesn't provide the best for the orchestra, Her Maj is a great venue but has never been a good fit for the ASO. A concert hall in Samuel Way would provide a new venue that could attract a new and different list of events for Adelaide, it would certainly bring more people to the markets precinct and china town before and after performances. Considering how detailed the ASO's plan was, I can't understand why it wouldn't even be considered in the mid-term future of that area.
