News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects
Re: News & Discussion: Laneway Revitalisation Projects
Those things are hideous. They look like the same material used for cheap vertical blinds.

Not so hard to understand when they're droopy/saggy flaps.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 2:45 pmNever seen so many men hating on flaps. There's a first for everything I guess!
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Ok, now that Bank St and the northern end of Topham Mall have had their extreme makeovers, what is the next step? Is Bentham St next in line (noting it will become one way to traffic in Jan), will there be a second section worked on simultaneously again? And will Leigh St be made over also to match in with the new look of the other sections? Sorry for all of the questions, I don’t remember ever seeing a detailed schedule of when work will be undertaken.

Leigh Street is fine and doesn't need to be done up again. I always get a Melbourne vibe when I walk through there.

Hope they don't dig up/tart up Leigh St. It's already got an established vibe, and it would be good to have a variety of design elements from the Riverbank to the Market, making it a more interesting experience.
Re: News & Discussion: Laneway Revitalisation Projects
Some of the pavers and street elements need fixing on Leigh Street, it's fallen under a bit of disrepair over the last few months.

Do they plan to open Bank St to cars again (if so, when?)
Re: News & Discussion: Laneway Revitalisation Projects
Really like the finish of all the laneways. Tidy, neat and accessible. Especially Bank St. I hope they can continue this right through to the central markets and even to South Terrace.

It wouldn't be so bad if the flappy things looked like solid metal instead of flimsy living room blinds. Otherwise, I greatly approve of these laneway revamps.

Are you going to pay for all of the lane ways to be re-developed thru to south terrace ?
Re: News & Discussion: Laneway Revitalisation Projects
Yes, but I'm not sure when. Possibly just after the new year starts or after the Fringe.how good is he wrote:Do they plan to open Bank St to cars again (if so, when?)
It will only go as far as the Central Markets for now.Mpol03 wrote:Really like the finish of all the laneways. Tidy, neat and accessible. Especially Bank St. I hope they can continue this right through to the central markets and even to South Terrace.

Fool.It wouldn't be an overnight project. It could be something to consider over the course of the next ten years as part of growing the CBD, and the City loop.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the flappy things are a temporary measure until vines are planted and have been given some time to establish.
