There's no right turn for the tram onto North Terrace... yet the construction seems to show a right hand turn? Am I missing something here?

There is a left turn from North Terrace East to King William Street. It will be used to send the trams to Glengowrie at night.

Good photos and video. What's the reason for the works extending quite some ways down North Terrace west and King William St?

So that the tracks line up with those on North Terrace East. The existing ones don't.

Yep, it will only show the destination according to the DPTI guys I spoke to during the consultation.
I think it will be better to display the tram's route number and destination… it’s more visible…
BTW, thank you for video from the casting yard. Very interesting.

How about something like this....T1 - Glenelg to Royal Adelaide Hospital (with a variation to Riverbank on big event days)
T2 - Entertainment Centre to East End

Sorry about my gfx skills.......

Caught the tram substitute bus today. Someone needs to get some route maps up at the stops (or at least give one to the drivers). Feel sorry for the driver having to explain the route, and which stop people need to go to in order to come back, over and over again. Only a few hours in, and the driver we had already sounded weary from it.

I think the “Riverbank” line should also run all weekends esp. for the tourists and obviously when events are on. The extension should really have gone an extra stop to Adelaide Oval, Ent. centre should have been extended one extra stop to Hindmarsh Stadium and North Tce one extra stop to East Tce/Rundle St.

Update from 7pm tonight

First, this is where I believe the power is cut off from the northern section of the tram.

Image

Tram substitutes are running, as Nathan said, all over the place. Here it is using the hook turn at Currie Street

Image

Cars are still allowed into Hindley Street, but not any further than that.

Image

Tracks for the intersection are stored at Adelaide Railway Station and Rundle Mall

Image

Image

Tracks between the Rundle Mall stop and North Terrace have been dug up, including the concrete base. I remember a story that mentioned some incorrectly installed wiring or waterlogged cables, so they might be replacing that as well.

Image

Image

The same is happening on North Terrace

And, most importantly, the intersection

I assume that most of the power transmission poles will be renewed.
In addition, there will be more 'Hook Turns' for automobile traffic.
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

The last North Tce stop is a stones throw from the East Tce corner (it's literally out the front of Ayers House).

I think what they’re doing is the best that could be done within the suspected constraint of: “must be complete before the election for $Xm fixed price.”

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Regardless of budget/timeline, I think it's the right spot for the stop. Provides the best access for the OldRAH site as well as the East End via Paxtons Wk/Vaughan Pl, and using the existing pedestrian crossing. Also means you don't have platforms competing for space with the right turn lanes from North Tce on to East Tce.

IIRC, the original plan for this stage was just a stub track far enough North of the intersection that when they start work on the track to Prospect it wouldn't interfere with the intersection a second time. So, even the stretch to Riverside was quite an extra.
