[PRO] Re: #Proposed - Westfield Marion Expansion - $200 million
westfield rents are rediclous.
They work on a sliding scale, the more money you make the more rent you pay.
Hows that for fair trading?

And don't forget that if you don't meet the revenue targets they set for you, you're out of business!
But then, it's what's made them the world's largest/most successful (I think) shopping centre operator!

[PRO] Re: #Proposed - Westfield Marion Expansion - $200 million
Just saw in the Guardian Messenger that it has been approved (or at least expected to be approved after the council meeting last night)
Improvements include:
- New 3 storey car park on Diagonal Road
- More parking on the Northern side of the centre
- Oppertunity for a northern bus interchange
- 90 more shops (to a total of 360)

APPROVED at $280M now:
From The Messenger:
From The Messenger:
WESTFIELD Marion will be transformed into Australia's second-largest shopping centre after it won development approval last week.
Marion Council's Development Assessment Panel (DAP) approved the $280 million redevelopment at last Wednesday's (August 15) meeting after Westfield agreed to move a planned car park further away from Diagonal Rd, add landscaping and include street-facing shops.
Westfield also will have to prepare a comprehensive car park management plan outlining how it will cope during peak times.
Westfield spokesman Robert Green told the panel the centre had become an ``icon'' after its 1997 redevelopment.
``But over time that icon position has been watered down,'' he said.
``We want to bring it back up to its rightful position.''
Mr Green said the centre was no longer adequately serving the public, particularly in food and fashion.
The expansion will add 90 shops (18,000sq m of floor area), bringing the total to 360 (150,000sqm of floor area).
Only Melbourne's Chadstone Shopping Centre, with 170,000sqm once a current expansion is finished, will be bigger.
Most of the new shops at Marion will be on the first floor, with an extra mall running parallel with the existing mall from Kmart to David Jones.
The centre's food court will be expanded to include street-facing cafes along Diagonal Rd.
There also will be a ``fresh food market'' and new supermarket at the Kmart end.
Westfield wants to attract high-end fashion retailers to fill its new shops in a bid to compete with strips like The Parade at Norwood.
There also will be 915 extra car parks, bringing the total to 6353.
Most of the new parking spaces will be in decked car parks near Myer and David Jones on the centre's north-eastern side and near Bunnings on the west.
Westfield originally submitted plans to Marion Council in January but the council had expressed concerns about the unattractive appearance of the three-storey car park planned for the Diagonal Rd frontage.
The expansion is predicted to increase annual sales at the centre by $108 million, to $602 million. Mr Green said construction work would start in early 2009 with most of it completed by Easter 2010 and the entire project finished by Christmas 2010.
