As a non rider it would also be excellent if these lofty standards could ve applied to our local awful drivers.
Motorists already are, through licensing and registration, and insurance.
A licenced driver has demonstrated (with a decreasing number of elderly exceptions) that they
know what the rules are and how to follow them. Unfortunately, that does not mean that everyone always follows the rules, wither they are driving
or riding.
I never said every driver follows the rules. But those who don't are able to be held accountable. That's the difference.
And they pay dearly when they are caught, especially when they endanger other road users lives.
Anyway this is off topic so lets drop it.

Just call/email your local member and ask them why there isn’t more funding being directed at building bike-specific infrastructure to cater for getting cyclists off the ‘dangerous’ roads. Pollies have told me they don’t think there’s many votes in it so regardless of your motivations.. it should help to let them know your feelings on the matter.

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

I'm confused where that photo is taken from?

The footbridge between the rail overpass and Hawker Street.

It's looking north, and would have been taken from the northern end of the Port Road intersection.

You're right, I missed the massive rail bridge in the background

The conduit bridge in the foreground does look a bit like the Hawker St footbridge, to be fair.

That's poor design imo.
If they need to do repairs to whats inside it, for whatever reason, they are going to have to close lanes in the trench, or close it entirely going north or south or both.
Everything should have been routed through the 'bridges'.

Quite possibly they installed walk ways on that structure not actually requiring lane closures as would working on anything under a bridge.

Aerial photographs from Google Earth of the Darlingtron upgrade as at 11 December 2017
It appears that over the weekend Darlington changed some of the traffic around at the ayliffes intersection.
Also driving past and piering over some of the barriers it looks like some of the bridges are being excavated namely Sturt Road. It’s quite obvious from the turning lanes.

Yep, the new alignment will allow construction of the Ayliffes Road flyover.
