The continuous white/grey columns to the top ruin it. Far from inspiring design.

Height of 108m.
Depending on approval, could begin in little as a couple of months time. Though with a staggering 680 bedrooms and a budget of $60 million, I have a feeling this will be plagued with issues. I'm honestly in two minds about this tower.

Student accommodation tower on North Terrace and Frome St corner in proposed development

NO matter what finally gets built on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site, students in a 34-storey accommodation tower directly opposite are going to have the best view of it.
Developer Global Student Accommodation has proposed the $60 million, 680-bed complex for the corner of North Tce and Frome Rd.
It means the 1950s First Church of Christ Scientist building would be demolished, after attempts to have it state heritage listed failed last year.
Global Student Accommodation has proposed the $60 million, 680-bed complex for the corner of North Tce and Frome Rd.
GSA head of real estate for Australia and New Zealand, Jon Whittle, said the new building would have a “standout” entrance and reception area not unlike a hotel.
Options would range from one-person units through to five-person apartments, but in all cases students would have their own bedrooms.
Mr Whittle said common and social areas would be spread through the building, which would also have a focus on sustainability and power saving measures.
The 108m building would be next to the even taller Frome Central Tower One, already under construction on Frome Rd.
The neighbouring Frome Central Tower One, under construction on Frome St. Global Student Accommodation’s proposed tower would be built in place of the First Church of Christ Scientist building on the corner.
Mr Whittle hoped the proposal would go before the State Commission Assessment Panel in the next month.
If approved, work would start in April and be done in late 2019.

Seems a bit short. Will wait for the Dac docs to confirm. Amazing to have two 100m+ proposal not only under construction in adelaide but next to each other! Wow.

They're right in this case. I'll admit that it's not bad as far as student accomodation goes, but I think the proportions of the tower are all wrong. Having the curved columns on the bottom third of the tower with straight columns on top just clashes for me. It would be more appealing to repeat the curved column theme at the bottom third of the tower in the middle thirdand the top third of the tower, separated by the inset floors around levels 10-12 and levels 22-24.

It might just be student accommodation but at 125m it's going to stand out given how short the vast majority of the skyline is.ml69 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 11:54 amI'll admit that it's not bad as far as student accomodation goes, but I think the proportions of the tower are all wrong. For me the protruding columns should end where they appear to curve back into the building.

The bookshop has now vacated so the site is ready to go should it be approved.

Mr Haese said the introduction of height limits and tough rules around setbacks would also protect the CBD’s cultural boulevard from “wall-to-wall 30-storey buildings”.
His vision for the southern side of North Tce does not include student accommodation, like the 34-storey tower, 680-bed tower planned for the site of the Church of Christ, Scientist building, at the Frome St intersection.
“Once you have one (30-storey building), there is an argument for a second and a 15th,” he says.

Are they oblivious to Realm and Adeladian that have already started construction? Not directly on North Terrace, but close enough to dominate the area when completed."Once you have one (30-storey building), there is an argument for a second and a 15th,” he says.

Because we should just approve anything and everything because of height. John Rau is a f*cking moron, and if this building is approved without any kind of assessment of the design then so too are the DAC.Mr Smith wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2018 8:53 amBen wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2018 8:28 amThe bookshop has now vacated so the site is ready to go should it be approved.
