It sounds like a Liberal government.Howie wrote:That's what I like to hear the most, a progressive government for development.beamer85 wrote:

Although it is good that the state is pursuing such policies, I have to admit that I do cringe a bit when Labor politicians say they are pro-business so overtly. Democracy will suffer if both major parties become so alike, that debate will only be centred on who is the better economic manager. How boring.

Load of rubbish. The ANZ may lean a little towards the Liberals, which is natural since they are a pro-business party, but huge corporations are just as happy under a Labor government. The ANZ being a bank will always make profits regardless.ynotsfables wrote:Absolutely fantastic thats what i was initially lead to believe all along. This seems more factual than the ANZ's so called fabricated recession. Some nerve hey, they must be Liberal sympathisers supporting the campaining for the up coming federal election.
Defence contracts, universities, a mining and construction boom do not give SA immunity. If our manufacturing industry fails (which it will since we cannot compete with Asia) and we have continued droughts, we'll lose many jobs and a lot of revenue. I don't think it is dirty politics, it's just an alarm bell that Kevin Foley has to consider. Hopefully the state will spend its (our) money wisely on infrastructure (water related) to ensure we can reach that population target they wish for.I'm not taking political sides here, but fairs fair thats just dirty politics. You just have to see whats going on around the state, thats the evidence.
Cheers

I agree. Labor has been moving more and more to the right for many years. Premier Mike Rann and State Treasurer Kevin Foley could easily be in a Liberal government. Sometimes I do wonder that if both parties at a Federal level actually governed together, with their mix of ideas, Australia would be a much envied place. Will wrote:It sounds like a Liberal government.

I agree that Labor has moved to the right, however it is a process that begun with the Hawke governemnt. However I would not like to see a Labor, Liberal coalition. That would effectivley be a right-wing dictatorship. I want choice when I cast my vote.Ho Really wrote:I agree. Labor has been moving more and more to the right for many years. Very few people know that in the former East Germany there were multiple parties, however they were all required to follow the Communist economic system. Hence people in the former East Germany could vote for 'different' political parties, however the problem was that effectively they didn't have a choice on what economic model they wanted.
I know that this is a somewhat extreme example, but what I'm saying is that in Australia there is effectively a duopoly of power between the 2 big political parties. And with our preference system, effectively if you vote for a minor party you are voting for either one of the 2 big ones. If both parties adopt the neo-liberal economic model, then effectively we revert to the East German example when you could vote for different parties, but effectively you did not have a choice as to the economic model you wanted to live under.
And whilst the Greens are a viable choice for other people, their social policies are too extreme for me.

We're not failing, we haven't failed and we don't intend to fail, sure lets be vigilant and spend sensibly & wisely, but come on lets cut the crap and get on with job regardless of who decides to judge and criticise.

I agree with ynotsfables that we are not in recession, and anyone with failure on their mind is sick in the head. success is determined by the right attitude. what Ho really wrote is very negative and it seems to me he would like failure to occure

It's not fair for a State that tries to compete real hard,to get kicked in the teeth at a time of national economic well being. Where is the support ?

Re: SA Now In Recession: ANZ Bank
I wasn't being negative and I don't want SA to fail. What I want to see is a government that considers all economic reports, is vigilant and makes corrections if required. That's all. Besides the things I've said about certain industries, there's one issue that affects all, water. Let's hope (pray) we don't get another drought in the South East of the country. This can put a dent in our economy, and I'm not being negative, but realistic.corisson wrote:I agree with ynotsfables that we are not in recession, and anyone with failure on their mind is sick in the head. success is determined by the right attitude. what Ho really wrote is very negative and it seems to me he would like failure to occure

Re: SA Now In Recession: ANZ Bank
No offence meant Ho really, as for the water shortage what do you think about madatory rain water tanks in every household. I think its a good step to take, the water could be used in irrigation, livestock and even filtered for human consumption. I also think that the government should rebate a cirtain percentage of the initial cost just sa they have with the L.P.G scheme. do you think this is unrelistic ??

Re: SA Now In Recession: ANZ Bank
No worries corisson. Any way we can save and store water I am happy with. Rebates as well. What you are saying is not unrealistic. I also mentioned in the mining thread a pipeline from the Northern Territory for the townships up north that are booming. It's a pie-in-the-sky suggestion, but who knows it may be the only solution 10, 20, 30 years down the track. If SA gets it water supply right it will have a bright future for sure.
We also have to keep our fingers crossed on the price of commodities, if they fall companies will make less and may even consider to downsize or close. SA will still get its royalties, but if the mines close that revenue will stop.
Cheers
