I think the flack that the Liberal Party would get for such a move would be political suicide. So yes, we will see the sections operating before they "fix" the RH turn.

Anyone with common sense would put the Liberals to the sword for a sensationalist and exorbitantly money-wasting taxpayer expense.

Yep could (which from what i understand is also underfunded).

They could toss a million dollars at a Black Spot in each state electorate for not much more than the cost of the "right turn".

I was surprised that the tram junction was not built with that turn in the first place, but if there is a credible set of route plans that don't need it, then I don't think it is worth the reported cost to install it a year later.

Transport minister Stephan Knoll among other things....

“The North Terrace extension is in the final stages of completion on the current plans,” he said.
“We need to get that system up and running and from there we’ll work very quickly to deliver on our election promise to deliver the right-hand turn.
“Within the next weeks we will see progress to complete this (North Terrace extension) and I look forward to opening this new tram extension in the very, very near future.”
Knoll said the Liberal government still opposed Labor’s plans to extend the tramline to Norwood, but it remained open to an extension into North Adelaide.
“We were very clear about our mind remaining open to the extension to North Adelaide – that’s something that we’re currently working through with the department and we’ll be making further decisions and announcements about that in due course.”

We have not heard any more about a bid to build a private tram to the Airport. In December The Advertiser reported that the then-premier was cool on a privatised public transport system, but would give any proposals proper assessment. The then-opposition-transport-spokesman (who is now the Minister for Industry and Skills) only said that he thought the bidder had been talking to the government for some time, without a clue about his or his party's inclination.

Still feels to me the entire right hand turn thing is about people that are so simple they can't comprehend that it is possible that not all trams are for Glenelg.

It is alien to think that if I catch the tram from the East end that it would not take me to Glenelg.
Or that I can't hop on a tram and have the option to be taken to any other tram stop I desire in Adelaide.

It is why the tram to Norwood, Prospect or Unley all sound a bit silly, how frequent could any of these services be. There would just be a constant convey of trams crossing Brighton Road. It would also be very confusing that I would need to check each tram for exactly where it would take me.

I cannot believe it would cost much at all. The estimate was produced by the Parliamentary budget people, but totally without reference to DPTI. In other words, a guess. A million is probably a better guess.

Well one positive from the Libs constructing the damn right turn, is that it is harder for them to then rubbish the whole tram idea. If they get caught telling the public the trams were a stupid waste in the first place, people would then be entitled to ask why they are spending money on a single turn. I think it makes future extensions MORE likely with the added flexibility-despite the apparent waste of money.-They are kind of painting themselves into a corner. Good to hear they are also apparently open to an extension to North Adelaide at least, because it then makes the Prospect link more likely in future. As for the folk of Norwood, well...you got what you wished for. Continuation of buses/ clogging up your footpaths, but with the added insult apparently of wires for trolley buses requiring removal of your footpath trees.
