Ideas for a greater public transport system
Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
Even though services go into the current dead end set up in Adelaide station, the trains that run on the Gawler Central - Noarlunga Centre services basically already do what you have proposed. Basically, the one railcar set will run from Gawler to the City, then they will back out and run to Noarlunga and vice-a-versa.
Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
I've just updated the project with a few changes and new additions. Now it includes bus cross town routes and parts of the new Long Distance Trains.

Wow! That is extensive, and some ideas are good. I can't wait to see the horror on Mr Conlon's face when he sees this. But at least your ideas are better than his at the moment, lol!
How did you obtain a copy of such a large satellite photograph? I would love to have a copy please

I find it amusing you chose to ignore Salisbury and Elizabeth, despite both being major centres and significantly larger than the destinations of some of your lines. Too bogan for you?
Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
Photoshop takes up a LOT of memory, so I'll include it next time. I might even add its own seperate Subway system, I'll have to analyse it first. I'm sorry if I was classist I just wanted to do the basics first.AtD wrote:I find it amusing you chose to ignore Salisbury and Elizabeth, despite both being major centres and significantly larger than the destinations of some of your lines. That's wierd, they work here.
Try right-clicking the link and selecting Save Target As... that way you can save it to the comp. Tell me if you're still having problems then.

Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
I've now added a close-up of the city, to get a better idea where the stops are around there.

Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
ok its time i gave this a crack and tried to find a solution to the PT system mine is very simple but i believe it would work.
The black line is an underground tunnel housing 2 train lines, 1 north bound and 1 south bound with a provision for an extra line in each direction if in the future the need be.
The big black square (MS paint is all i know how to use, im rather computer illiterate) is to be a big swanky start of the art train station with underground platforms right next to Adelaide High School (the days of trains turning around will be gone)
The Kewsick teriminal is abondoned and interstate trains use the central station (the way they alway should have).
The Aqua line is the interstate train line (above ground line)
The maroon line is a tram line linking all forms of rail together.
please critisize it im by no means an expert on this but tell me what you think please

Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
Interesting solution. Expanding on this idea why not have the loop line go underground at the Morphett Street Bridge and go south under Morphett Street and then loop back at the Keswick station after a section under the parklands. My reasoning is this: west of the Morphett Street Bridge you can build a bus tram interchange over the railyards which can be accessed by North Terrace and Morphett Streets. THis could become the de facto central station or you could build one (expensive) under Light Square. The tram on North Terrace can terminate at the West Campus or continue somewhere else (Henley Beach, Airport, etc.). The underground line can also serve the new apartments at The Precinct, etc., and the growing number of people that will live there in the next 5 to 10 years.Cruise Control wrote:ok its time i gave this a crack and tried to find a solution to the PT system mine is very simple but i believe it would work.

Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
Cruise Controls idea would be the most probable solution the government would go for as it would be the cheapest to implement. It will be efficient in that we have no terminating point so we could bring in more service intervals and faster train services (via electric trains etc).
Ho really's idea, being similar to Cruise control's, will have the same efficiency impact, but will probably be more convenient as it is more in the heart of the city. Those who work on currie st would love this and the others will catch a tram etc.
Nothing beats normangermans idea, that is INSANE, thats like a world class PT system that would put us with NYC. Id cream if we slowly worked our way to that.

Better hurray up and get the Marj Tahal built, I can hear the Parklands Preservation Societys' collective hearts defribulating as as they hear about re-routing the rail lines through the west parklands. Good Luck!
Still, I like it CC.

Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system
That's excellent work there, CC. The only thing I would be worried about is that all the Noarlunga and Belair Trains can't make up all the Grange, Gawler and Outer Harbour lines, but we could just use the rail yards in Keswick and Goodwood to terminate some lines.Cruise Control wrote:ok its time i gave this a crack and tried to find a solution to the PT system mine is very simple but i believe it would work.

But other than that, well done
