Yeh I can see them making up dozens of signs saying North South Motorway, and then less than a year after it’s all completed(finally) decide to give it a name and have to make new signs. South Australian problems. Should call it the Kaurna Motorway.

I doubt the state/fed govt would name such a big project to remember the people the land was stolen from. We need to stop dwelling on the past and move on.rev wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 10:32 amYeh I can see them making up dozens of signs saying North South Motorway, and then less than a year after it’s all completed(finally) decide to give it a name and have to make new signs. More likely it will be called something like: Remembrance Motorway, Legacy Link, or Gallipoli Way. We need to remember the past, and never forget the sacrifice of our brave young diggers.

would be happy with Kaurna Motorway if the Kaurna were happy with it. (or perhaps an aboriginal work that reflects what the road is/does?)
bit sick of ANZAC and war names.

I say let's go in the other direction and call it something fancy like Lollipop Lane. It could become a tourist attraction like Adelaide's new twin towers.
My second suggestion would be to call it Ring Road. Then we can rename the ring road to the North-South Motorway to help differentiate between the two and to avoid confusion.

Not sure why this has become know as the "motorway", when other freeway style roads in the metro area are called expressways? Why not also label this expressway. It is of similar standard and variable speed just like PREXY, SEXY and NEXY. I get that expressways tend to be slightly lower speed and not quite a freeway, but surely expressway would be suitable to the finished product, and tie in with the other links.

My choice, as I've said before but may have been forgotten, is Charles Sturt Freeway, as it goes through the City of Charles Sturt and ends up becoming the Sturt Highway (A20).
Someone else suggested that this name would be good north of the Torrens, and Colonel Light Freeway south of the Torrens. I also like that idea.

Enough with the trolling guys, the name is what it is.

Really? You think? Because, seriously, I don't. Sounds very temporary to me.
And trolling? pot ... kettle ... black ...

I prefer Kaurna because for once we wouldn't be naming a road or freeway after a white person or war references...

Is there not a small problem with applying the name Kaurna to a road that literally carves through Kaurna land? Would that get support from the Kaurna people

Are there any here to ask?Llessur2002 wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 1:22 pmIs there not a small problem with applying the name Kaurna to a road that literally carves through Kaurna land? Would that get support from the Kaurna people
It depends on your perspective whether the road is carving through and dividing the land, or linking Noarlunga near the southern end of Kaurna land to Gawler near the northern end (and all parts in between).
