But those 2 disgusting carparks on Rundle Street are fine. Adelaide: demonise people who want to live in it, celebrate those who drive all over it.[Shuz] wrote: ↑Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:44 pmThere are ample development sites within the CBD that are far more appropriate for proposals like this one.
A 63m tall development for an area that has a very well preserved heritage and streetscape, which consists of 19th century low-rise 2 to 3 storey buildings is an absolutely inappropriate and disrespectful proposal.
This should be rejected outright, no ifs or buts about it.

Aren't they already there? I'm sure if they weren't people on here wouldn't like them to be built.Algernon wrote:But those 2 disgusting carparks on Rundle Street are fine. Interestingly, the hungry jacks upark is an award winner in its category.

What is everyone's problem with this one? It looks nice. 10X better than the North Terrace Student Accom, The swiss Cheese Waymouth AND the GPO development.

Too tall for some peoples liking, they are scared that someone might look out their window and see them eating a frog cake on Rundle St on a Saturday night.

If you can't see what some people's problem is with the height of this building in this pocket of the city then you're completely delusional.
[PRO] Re: 292-300 Rundle Street | 63m | 20 Levels | Mixed Use
It's proposed to be about 40% of the height of the building under construction 200m west of it. How big is a "pocket of the city"?Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 9:25 pmIf you can't see what some people's problem is with the height of this building in this pocket of the city then you're completely delusional.

I mean, the feel of Rundle Street east of Frome is, I'd argue, fairly different to the other side. I'd argue, in fact, that the "cultural precinct" section doesn't really start until you hit that point, and that the other side feels more in a lot of ways like a continuation of the Mall but with cars and a couple of passable restaurants. It's got the established height between the car parks, the Pullman, the Majestic, etc etc. Adelaidian doesn't feel out of place where it's being built.SBD wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 9:39 pmIt's proposed to be about 40% of the height of the building under construction 200m west of it. The other side, meanwhile, has a couple of fairly short apartment blocks set back a fair way from the streetscape that don't impose at all. Walk down into Rundle Park and the thing that sticks out the most is the big screen at the cinemas. I'm not necessarily opposed to the building* but there's a pretty significant gap between it and anything of any significant height. It's going to look out of place unless more development occurs in that block, which will be hard because of how much of it is heritage.
*Though I am skeptical, in the long term, of the effect of this kind of development on the area - it might not have any effect in the short term but increasing the amount of residents in the entertainment precincts of the city does run the risk of slowly killing the nightlife as the residents lose their enthusiasm for living in party central. Consider the Crown and Anchor which is now owned by developers and is only still running as-is because their plans to develop next door haven't gotten off the ground yet. Or the Austral which had to build a separate section for live music that scarcely gets used because it's so separated from the main pub.

People's "problem" with the height of this proposal is irrelevant when there's 130m "towers going up a stones throw away, and when there is already height in the area.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 9:25 pmIf you can't see what some people's problem is with the height of this building in this pocket of the city then you're completely delusional.
Maybe you should cast your eyes up occasionally instead of down at your balfours pie all the time.

It's a completely separate block from where all the high-ride development is going up, as mentioned above by someone else. It might a surprise to you but Rundle Street between Frome Street and East Terrace is completely different from Rundle Street between Frome Street and Pulteney Street. And believe me, I cast my eyes up quite often in this area and all I see is two hideous concrete pre-cast buildings which no doubt you were probably in favour of.rev wrote: ↑Sat May 12, 2018 11:23 amPeople's "problem" with the height of this proposal is irrelevant when there's 130m "towers going up a stones throw away, and when there is already height in the area.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 9:25 pmIf you can't see what some people's problem is with the height of this building in this pocket of the city then you're completely delusional.

Do you comprehend the impact a couple of 100m+ buildings will have on the area, regardless of which side of Rundle st you’re on?
[PRO] Re: 292-300 Rundle Street | 63m | 20 Levels | Mixed Use
It has also only been on a separate block since the 1960s when Tavistock Lane was widened to make Frome Street. I'm not sure that makes it "completely separate" as distinct from "only a bit separate" anywayrev wrote: ↑Sun May 13, 2018 7:32 pmWho said it’s on the same block?Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Sat May 12, 2018 7:13 pmIt's a completely separate block from where all the high-ride development is going up, as mentioned above by someone else. They appear to be building a showroom for this in the vacant tenancies next to San Churros on Rundle Street (beneath where it will be built).
