[COM] 27-31 Angas Street | 103m | 30 Levels | Kodo Apartments

It does blend into the courts quite well, I just hope the blank wall gets some type of paint job.

Well in my opinion, it’s looking great. What level is the core at now?
[COM] Re: 27-31 Angas Street | 103m | 30 Levels | Kodo Apartments
I’ve been away for a couple of week but will try to get some pics this week. It should be at or around level 24 now.

Few pics today. Core level 23. Floors 21. Still on track to reach max height in July.
I think it will look better when the balconies are complete. The green really works well with the law courts and Sa water and now I’m starting to see why they’ve done what they have. Will be good when the podium is done so we can see the quality of the finishes.

As I said earlier, it’s got that “tall” look about it now. Can’t wait to see it at full height.

It's hard to hate a building which is ostensibly a visual continuation of the law courts building. Unless you hate that too, then go nuts
I haven't had a chance to see this in the flesh. But in photos taken on overcast days the concrete western side looks more interesting than a painted finish. Really stands out in that last pic in Ben's photo dump.

I'm quite optimistic about the final outcome for Kodo too. So far it is looking refined and matches very well the finishes of the law courts building. Hopefully the western facade (which does have some variation) will surprise us all too. All in all this building will be a thousand times better than the new student tower at Synagogue Place. Thanks for the pics Ben!Algernon wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 1:39 amIt's hard to hate a building which is ostensibly a visual continuation of the law courts building. This building will still be a disappointment thanks to the western side (blame the law courts). I've mentioned before the only way Kodo can be redeemed is a good artistic paint job. Perhaps an Aboriginal design incorporating a goanna. With a colour palette not too dissimilar to the law courts. Now that would look good from Vic Square and Gouger Street. My worth.

Paint would look terrible. The law courts have great materiality - the varied coloured glass, metal shades, and of course the copper. You try to reference that with paint, it'll look cheap and garish.
[COM] Re: 27-31 Angas Street | 103m | 30 Levels | Kodo Apartments
So then leave the western wall bare as it is now? It looks awful.
[COM] Re: 27-31 Angas Street | 103m | 30 Levels | Kodo Apartments
I believe the concrete will be painted.
There was at one stage a proposal I believe to clade the upper western side with patterned solar panels, to create a faux glass facade and to increase the energy rating of the tower. Not sure if this will happen, maybe Ben could share if he heard anything?

Just to add to the discussion on the various sides of this building, here is a shot from round the back, taken today.

From my usual vantage point in the local foothills neighbourhood. West Franklin can also clearly be seen in the background on the left side. (25/5/2018)
