What if they designed it like Jetty Rd Glenelg where the light rail and cars share the road..and they may still be able to keep their trees and median strip.

There are traders who want it, to bring extra cliente and locals who want it to get into the city easily. But then there are traders who don't want it due to trees being cut down and brining the wrong type of clientele and also impact car/parking (its always about cars!) and locals who don't want it because it would ruin the feel of the Parade, extra people, worse parking etc etc.
I'm indifferent to it, I can see the benefits but understand the why some people don't see it

Marshall said no trams outside City of Adelaide, specifically said no, no and no to any tram now or in the future, down The Parade Norwood. That message has been delivered to the NPSP Council loud and clear.
NPSP Council have made it clear the redevelopment Masterplan for The Parade will not take any tram line into consideration, and there’s the bigger issue.
Because there is no support to extending the tram network, to The Parade, or anywhere in suburbia, we run the risk of a Council redesigning its premier activity strip accordingly. The big concern in this case, is how much wider footpaths will go and how will the extra car parking be implemented?
If the road width gets too narrow and one day a different State Govt puts the tram back on the agenda, it could mean reducing the road to one lane of traffic or removing an entire lane of car parking, causing an even bigger outcry from the public.
Labor had their 30 year plan, now Liberals want to create their own 20 year plan with different ideas regarding trams, there is a real risk of this becoming an ongoing circular debate between the two parties and a 50/50 split public, getting extra heated approaching election time every four years.

Yes Labor did have a 30 year plan, but it was woefully inadequate in detail, provided no provision for reservation of land use, transport corridors, co-ordination of various councils or any idea of future funding. It was not much more than a glossy marketing brochure, and poorly marketed at that. I would say the public split is much more like only 30 percent really in favour of the tram- the concept was just not sold to them. There is absolutely the probability the Parade will be lost to trams, and we will find instead that a future Labor government will use Magil road instead. Mind you - the Magil Rd option must be an interesting one to assess from a cost-benfit basis. Parade is already functioning very well commercially and rents etc I believe are amongst the highest in Adelaide. Also multi-level apartments sprouting up which will further cement this strip.
If you consider tram lines on face value will never pay for themselves up-front, then stimulating another strip along Magil provides huge opportunity to create another up-lift and value-capture in parallel to the Parade.
I would suggest the Council in it's Masterplanning of the Parade needs to keep in mind that one street does not make a district and the chance to consider Parade in one light, Magil in another could yet be a win-win.
Given the timeframes even if policy were to change and advocate an East Link, it will be 5+ years minimum before completed I'd guess and by then more urban in-fill and development potential for Magil, linking to the Parade would be seemingly very feasible and exciting??

For a slight change of pace — good that the updated announcements on the tram tell you which side the platform will be at each stop, but the "in the direction of travel" at the end of every announcement is like nails on a chalkboard. What idiot wouldn't understand that 'left' and 'right' is relative to the front of the tram?

Yeah it is a long announcement, I feel like it should only be used when there's a change of sides from the last stop, not every stop. I think these announcements would be better on the trains, like when arriving into the city where nobody knows which side the doors open and it's always different, and in some places on the train network the platform side changes almost every station.

Basically, what it says is that tram testing will commence from tonight/tomorrow morning at 12:30am on both sections of the new track.

Caught Nort! I confess.
Now I've woken up, a bit more detail.
Flexity 113 went across the intersection and down to East Terrace without a hitch. The tram stopped at points, lights, and various locations where clearances for mirrors and platform gaps was checked. Slower than walking pace the whole way. Same on the way back. Then the tram took off to the Entertainment Centre to reverse and repeat the exercise without stopping (except lights and the East Terrace points) at walking speed. The only puzzle was why the tram didn't reverse at the Railway Station crossover, as everyone was waiting for it to return.
That was it from me.
