I know a couple who are looking forward to moving in to the retirement village that is being built where Maughan Church used to be. One of them has to retire to be allowed in. They are both migrants form the UK, perhaps they have a different attitude than Australian-born? They look forward to being a short walk from theatres, restaurants and the Central Market after living in the northern suburbs for decades. Just because it doesn't suit all of us doesn't mean there aren't enough people who do like it.

Sounds like a developers dream

So this is possibly "dead" as a retirement community....judging by the claim that the developer has given refunds on peoples deposits.
Why not turn the "retirement community" element of this, into apartments? Or part apartments, part service apartments/hotel...?

There was a 40 % commercial element to this and the tenant who committed pulled out

It was probably BHP... Opting for an U/C development vs. proposed.citywatcher wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 8:41 pmThere was a 40 % commercial element to this and the tenant who committed pulled out

If it's true, I don't blame them. Poor location for a major tenant like BHP.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 24, 2018 12:08 amIt was probably BHP... This explains why when I walked past a week ago there were people there pulling off the advertising on the windows facing KWS.
So the Trims building survives another day?

As disappointed as I am to see this one fall over, I'd love to see the next proposal integrating the Trims building. Can't see it happening, but would be pretty cool if they managed it.

The last of the signage was removed today. I wonder what the plan is now.

When I was in Adelaide 2.5 weeks ago I went to the Luminesque showroom. In my discussion there Echelon came up.The info from the Luminesqe display rooms is that Echelon is still going, albeit with a change in those being appealed to (future clientele). They have NOT given up.

Ah, I reckon they have given up on the previously proposed design. The model has been removed from their display room but interestingly not much else. They resubmitted plans for the smaller building in the original 4 building proposal on a side street off of KWS, so my guess is they're running with a much scaled down building appealing to a different clientele.

Speculation based on the business lingo they use. The phrase " a change in those being appealed to (future clientele)" never means 'we are going up-market'. It means 'we aren't making sales, we need to widen our reach and make it cheaper". The city's audience is generally either Upper-class or Student residents so if they're not going for Upper-class, they're most probably going for students.

Well the people Skyliner spoke to (Luminesque) have nothing to do with Echelon, so what they are saying themselves is speculation. So this is speculation based on speculation lol I think I will wait until we hear from someone involved in the project.
