I thought I'd include these. It'll look better once the greenery returns.

Nice before and after shots AtD. Here's what Will409 was talking about. Awaiting its glass roof, seats etc. Love this pic by Halo from Railpage with CC1 in the background. Taken today:

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
I guess the real question about clearances will come when we have H cars trying to pass each other on the King Wm / North Tce curve.
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Not sure if this has already been discussed... Im not really an expert on rail .... or on anything on this forum for that matter lol.... but can someone explain why on KWS just before North Tce ... there is some kind of cross over in the tracks?
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Extra crossovers are usually installed for emergency purposes in case of track closures due to things like derailments, etc. That particular crossover was used to shunt the H-class trams from the northbound track to the southbound when it failed to turn into North Terrace.bmw boy wrote:Not sure if this has already been discussed... As I understand, these are London Plane trees - and yes it's winter - they donn't like it. I was going to plant some on my land here in Brisbane (1/2 acre) and found out then. Very impressive trees. Very messy before winter on your own land and quite big.
BTW - a VERY impreesive shot of Nth. Tce - will have to desk top that! Does Adelaide justice.

Wow! The tramline has turned out much better than I thought, the station at Vic Square looks sexy - spesh with that yellow colour! I really like the Nth Terrace shot too, in fact I prefer that the trees are on the side now, rather than being in the middle as well - gives it a much cleaner look, come springtime, that will be green planet!
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
There are so many of them lining our roads now, they should be called Adelaide Plane Trees.skyliner wrote:As I understand, these are London Plane trees

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
They should be banned from any future streets. Bland trees which look shithouse in winter. They are absolutely disastrous for our fragile waterways because they dump an extraordinary nutrient load in autumn which suffocates all native aquatic species.
I was so disappointed when people ashamed of our great country insisted on these appalling trees being used on the Nth tce upgrade instead of the proposed eucalypts.

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Big update tonight, plenty of work happening this afternoon along the entire line.
First up, City West is finally being prepared for the top layer of concrete on the track. Got the re bar being put in at the moment.
It is funny you were all going on about the traffic lights at North Terrace/King William Street intersection, I found them and got a photo of one of them. This one is on the North West corner.
Overhead works at the King William Street cross over. These guys were all packed up within half an hour.
Rundle Mall platform half finished.
Pirie Street platform in much of the same state.
New footpath being laid along the side of the extension in Victoria Square. However, this is almost being done on the cheap with ashphalt. Better then nothing I suppose.
A detailed look at the incomplete shelter at Victoria Square. A great design so far but it does seem rather low. Certainly lower then I was planned on.
The old terminus site.
Just going on about traffic lights on the extension, check out this monster outside the railway station on North Terrace.
