DPTI have advised that tram testing on the new extensions will recommence after normal services finish in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Just before 9.00am Friday, a correspondent on ABC Radio Adelaide (I'm not sure who was speaking - it was a journalist, not a project spokesperson) said the signalling problem has been traced to reo bars installed in the mass concrete at the new junction.

Apparently the bars should have been cut during installation back in January to prevent electrical current straying when trams are operating, but they weren't cut.

The problem has apparently been fixed & confirmed by test trams in the early hours of Friday. The expectation, according to the speaker, is that driver training will re-start next week (i.e. from 6 August - but this does not seem to be posted on DPTI or Adelaide Metro websites yet).

So assuming the ABC report is correct, we may only be a couple of weeks away!

The journalist on ABC 891 spin cycle this morning was Channel 9's Rory Mclaren who has followed the tram extension saga very closely.
DPTI Project Team have advised that signals will be monitored over the weekend whilst testing continues.
If all goes well driver training will recommence next week.

York Civil, the S.A. construction company which is in a Joint Venture with Downer EDI Works for the North Terrace tram extension, has just announced it is going into voluntary administration.

York are also involved in the Torrens to Torrens project on South Road.

Keeping SA construction businesses alive maybe why the previous government was drip feeding new tram extensions.

Not that I think that's a good thing necessarily, just that it might have been the motivation behind the program, since the proposed tram extensions don't seem to have been economic on their own merits.

Another issue about a tram becoming stuck on North Terrace last night reported on the radio.

Didn't mention it would delay the roll out.

I assume all the concrete with white lines around it sitting proud near the tracks are defect marks?
Do they all need to be grinded down? Most are marked near where it looks like it has been previously grinded but the concrete is still high.
