Report on Channel 9 news that there are currently 140 faults with the 2 new tram extensions. Work is progressing to rectify many of them.
There are a number of bent poles that need to be replaced,but that wont be done until next year.
DPTI still cannot give a starting date for when services will begin.

This is a joke. HAD the previous government simply said early last year: "OK, we're going to do this tram extension, it's going to take 10 months to complete. It's going to cost around $80m which will include tracks, platforms, new trams AND new light poles along North Terrace" then there would be no issue. We'd have a functioning tram extension right about now, aesthetics and faults wouldn't be an issue because all the streetlight poles would be new, strong and uniform, there wouldn't be any cracks in the slab work because they would have used a slower setting but stronger concrete mix. A decent conspiracy theory would be that York Civil going under is partly due to them knowing they stuffed things up and would be on the hook for costly rebuild costs.

They are also involved with the new Swan River footbridge connecting East Perth to the new stadium, which after being taken back from the manufacturers in Malaysia (they couldn't build it as planned), has had an endless pit of money thrown at it to complete. Because of the rush job, there are reportedly all sorts of issues that require rectification, and only because of the pressure to open it during the football season, it should not have been open until some of the issues were rectified. These are minor things like patches of flooding on the surface after heavy rain, and asthetic issues.. surfaces not lining up etc however between this and the tram extension, York might have seen the writing on the wall, and got out before they fell deeper into to the mire.

I don't really believe the roll-out of this has been disastrously flawed - more that the problem, as mentioned above, was with the unrealistic timeframe advised when the project was announced.
If this had been originally announced as a 10-12 month project, even with the flaws that have arisen, I don't think that it would have been met with this much negative attention. Every project will end up with a fix list after all - any the vast majority of the reported 140 faults are likely to be very minor in nature.
Also, it keeps rearing its head but the cracks in the concrete are minor from a structural perspective and are present along the whole of the concrete sections of the existing tram lines, as well as on most other projects where large slabs of concrete are laid in the high temperatures and low humidity of South Australia.

Interesting that "bent poles" get a mention in the faults to be rectified. Weren't we all told by DPTI that the bent poles were not an issue and would stay as they were? Or have I miss read something.

Yep, that bridge in Perth is a bit of a disaster. Went there (first time ever to Perth) in July and was quite underwhelmed and disappointed.
