Good thinking, but I'm not sure it would be a good idea closing the Glanville Station. It is in such a strategic position that it gives it room for parking and shuttle services. It will also be in a good position if the government thought about including a tram line from Semaphore Beach to Port Adelaide via a revitalised Birkenhead Bridge. That tram line could go all the way to the old Port Dock woolstores. Just a thought.

Glanville station is barely 100m from the bridge. One of the entrances to the car park is under the bridge. Google Maps link

From what I could see from west lakes on saturday late arvo, one crane is fully up, and the second tower is at full height. Could be fully up by now.

Also, if they ever intended to add a tram service along Semaphore Road it would pass right next to the station. The tram service I have in mind should go from Semaphore Beach to Port Adelaide (and maybe up to the Port Dock Station area). They could use the standard gauge line already in place on the side of the road up to the Birkenhead Bridge. Of course the bridge would need work done to it. I think this is an idea they should contemplate when the area is alive with people. That's my suggestion anyway.

It's a ridiculous idea to replace heavy rail with light rail. It's going backwards, even with the state of heavy rail in this city.

Sure, we need heavy rail to Seaford, Belair, Gawler, but not Port Adelaide. That area was MADE for trams.

Perhaps, but Port Adelaide is just the half-way mark on the Outer Harbor line.

My idea is not to replace heavy rail to Port Adelaide from the city. Doubling up with light rail is to me a waste of money. I'm suggesting a tram line from Semaphore Beach to Port Adelaide. It would have tourist value. Whether it went anywhere else I don't know. It could even go to Football Park and the West Lakes Mall if there were to be demand. I don't know. My overall idea is for a Port Dock station revival. I am hoping the surrounding area will be revitalised with apartments. I'm not sure how many of the woolstores have become or will become apartments, but if the overall population in that area were to grow it would be nice for that station to be reinstated into the network. Express trains could go from there to the city, etc. If the line through Rosewater were to be used people could go from the Port Dock to Gawler (or even the Barossa) and vice versa. Just ideas.

The two Multiplex cranes are now installed at the new Port development and it looks pretty good now. About 8-10 levels by the height of the cranes. Could not get a photo as it was dark when I drove past tonight.
