I think we have a govt that has found a political football that's all
It's their job to get it running

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Is this really the reason? Surely not. Why is this situation any different to 10000 people leaving the entertainment centre all at once and congregating around the stop there?. Or the convergence on the trams back to the city after the City to Bay fun run? Put some barriers out if they're worried about people on the tracks. As for thrown in the deep end? what on earth do you mean, the modern version of the tram in Adelaide has been around for a decade now- its one extra stop on one extra section of line, not like their trying to run a shinkansen.rubberman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:23 amIt might be that. It could also be that SA really has very low expertise in tram operations. This is not to reflect poorly on staff who obviously try hard, but is merely the result of having a system that's too small to build up expertise in what is a complicated area, but a really small part of Adelaide Metro.
There are so many signs of this around, and this is just another. IF this was Melbourne, we'd have the size of tramway to enable employment of staff who can understand and handle all of the problems that seem to stump people here.
It's also an argument for a larger system that could justify having the expertise here. At the moment, we really have people who are good at operating a standard single line. However, when it comes to special operations, tram extensions, major maintenance, they neither know what to do, nor who to ask.
I emphasise that I don't mean that as a criticism. Asking operations people to do these things is like asking a good car driver to build a car. Just because someone can drive a car, and even drive it well, it doesn't mean they can do major maintenance, nor build a new car from scratch. That's what Adelaide Metro gets tasked with, and if the truth is told, are probably doing better than most for having been thrown in the deep end.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
King William Road was closed to all traffic on Saturday night including Buses which had to detour via North Terrace, Kintore Avenue, Victoria Drive all day and night
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
So northbound busses had to turn RIGHT at North Terrace! The magic right turn for trams will be needed as part of extending the track to North Adelaide via Kintore Avenue!adelaide transport wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 4:40 pmKing William Road was closed to all traffic on Saturday night including Buses which had to detour via North Terrace, Kintore Avenue, Victoria Drive all day and night
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Does anyone have any idea when they will remove the fences and equipment down at the end of Kintore Avenue taking up parking spaces?
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
There was some problem with the points at the Botanic Garden stop today around 12.45 pm. Trams running east could not cross directly to south platform? 3 workers were working the problem.

Would points need servicing after 3 weeks .They were working in a small hole next to the track -To me the workers looked like they were panicking.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
They were servicing points in victoria square tuesday last week. Im assuming its a regular service for the whole network. Now that the new section has been handed over for operation they would be included in the service contract, regardless of the fact they have only been in operarion a few weeks

They always use the northern platform. This doesn't make sense because trams drive on the left. People waiting to get on the tram often think it will be leaving from the southern platform. Often you will see people waiting there for a tram that will never come.
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Are they looking down Botanic Road to see how close the tram they are waiting for is?1NEEDS2POST wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 2:24 pmThey always use the northern platform. Not quite. Went to catch it at lunch time today with everyone waiting on the northern platform, and it pulled in to the southern platform.1NEEDS2POST wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 2:24 pmThey always use the northern platform. Re: News & Discussion: Trams
The message about holding on whilst the tram is moving plays a lot faster now.
Re: News & Discussion: Trams
The same workers were on the same site today (12 45 pm) looking at the same set of points so there must be some ongoing problem ?
