Lights are a lost cause for Rundle Mall Christmas decorations — it's summer, so almost all of the mall's opening hours are during bright sunlight. If the mall was open hours past sunset regularly, or we had lots of dull weather, then sure lighting would look great, but against the summer sun bearing down? It would be a complete waste.

Yes but in the lead up to Christmas they may have a few days when the shops stay open 'till midnight. Last year Rundle Mall was packed when I was there at about 11:30 PM

Krispy Kremes is opening in the former Bing Boy next to Subway on Rundle Street.

Article in today's Advertiser stated that The Foodland is due to open In March.

What's the delay do you think? They originally planned to open by November/December this year.

Not sure but it looks as though nothing has happened since the mall was closed in April.

Plenty has been going on.

If you go into Westpac, you can see in thorough the mall-side window.

Cafe 55 on King William St had been closed and abandoned since 2017.

But that's only a few hundred metres from the Krispy Kreme on Grenfell Street. How many do they think we need?

Also, another Krispy Kreme is opening in Tea Tree Plaza.

At least that's in a place that doesn't already have one.

In a CBD, a few hundred metres is the equivalent of a few kilometres in the suburbs. That said, the fad will die out just as it did everywhere else in Australia, I believe Melbourne CBD now only has two Krispy Kreme outlets in the CBD itself and the remainder of sales are done through 7Eleven?

Whilst I don't really believe that those who frequent Rundle Street are the target market for Krispy Kreme, I still think that if and when it coms to downsizing the number of these KK shopfronts, Rundle and Gouger Streets will probably be all that remains because they do surprisingly well in the food districts.

Are the Krispy Kreme stores owned by Peregrine or franchised? Getting franchisees to buy into an already over-saturated market is a classic strategy to make some quick cash. Bonus points for the fact that until the house of cards collapses it can actually add as an ad to sell even more franchises since it looks like a successful chain.

Can't speak for how well they are actually doing, but the Grenfell Street store has been looking pretty quiet the last few months after peoples initial excitement wore off.

They are the sole head franchisor in SA and therefore control all the distribution/shops so no franchisees.
