[PRO] Westfield Marion
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
new shops in Marion SC are Daiso variety store and Mr and Mrs Jones, many of those shops listed would be far better off in Burnside SC
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
Many wealthy residents near Westfield Marion in areas such as Seacombe Heights, Brighton and Marino Rocks
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
A shopping centre like Chadstone draws people from all over Melbourne (and interstate) so there’s no reason Marion’s visitors would be limited to the local area.
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
^^ Chadstone is on a whole different level compared to the rest of the country. The downside however, there is no train or tram connection which makes it's extremely car dependent.
Though I agree Marion does need to lift it's game, it's not even in the Top 10 anymore. The way how slow things are going, Elizabeth will probably undergo another major expansion before Marion and TTP are upgraded. Both centres are a relic from the 90s.
I'm glad though to see some movement towards this.
Quite a number of those shops already exist in Burnside and other centres across Adelaide.

I would love to see that list of shops completed in Rundle Mall first and foremost. As it stands Rundle Mall still has a lot missing that could make it a much better shopping district. The more bridge luxury/high-end brand on this list could extend into Rundle St (as some already are there), to assist the lux, quirky, upmarket shopping experience that already operates here. It's frustrating because the Rundle strip should have so many of these brands (and even a few luxury brands in the vein of Luis Vitton and Gucci) and yet none have made it to Adelaide. If there is a market for multiple Calibre's and Carla Zamplatti's, there's is ample room for other brands of all types, to move in.
Anyhow, working at Burnside I have heard rumbles of a boutique DJs and a major extension (to Green Hill Road) taking place. I can see this centre with this extension, overtaking Marion as THE place to go to for shopping outside of the city (if it hasn't already).
There are a lot of people who come to Burnside who don't live in the area but appreciate it offers a lot more in the way of shopping. A boutique DJs will bring numerous brands into the Adelaide market. They have been very successful to date.
Marion and Westfield, in general, need to lift their game in South Australia. Putting Chadstone aside, Marion is really falling behind other major Westfields. Being the biggest in SA, I figured they would have invested in the centre over the last decade, ensuring great tenants are in place. It's been sad to see this and West Lakes treated like a glorified Centro Arndale.
More than one Uniqlo can HnM can operate in Adelaide. There's demand for on-trend well priced fast fashion. If Cotton On can operate, then the appeal for international brands who do on-trend fashion, better (though this is subjective) is most certainly there. Marion is quite honestly the perfect demographic for these stores, and many listed on the previous page.

[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
Agreed all these stores should be in the city, Rundle Mall is a bit trickier to align though given all the different lessors and building ownership.
On the topic of luxury stores weren’t there plans to try and get the likes of Louis vutton, Gucci etc in the heritage buildings next to Tiffany and Co?
Agreed at the moment all Adelaide Westfield’s are below average, dated, poorly precincted, lack of offering, poor parking layout and facilities - they have the potential to be tourist destinations like centres such as Doncaster and Chadstone, Bondi and other centres in the Eastern states
There’s definitely a market in Adelaide for all of these stores, not saying this is evidence of economic confidence but the amount of people who post and tag the brands they wear online now, brand status is as big as it’s ever been, there’s a want for these premium labels. The potential is there it’s just whether it’s the CBD, Burnside or Westfield who make the first move.
Here’s hoping that application is the real deal as wouldn’t mind seeing Marion as the ‘Chadstone’ of Adelaide in years to come.

[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
It once was. Marion used to be in the Top 5 biggest shopping complexes in the country.
It still holds the title of having the largest cinema complex in the southern hemisphere.
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
Plans are now online. Somewhat different to original.
Around 16,800 square metres additional space.
6 mini majors including 4 new ones (i'd assume H & M, Zara, Uniqlo and Apple).
Big W, JB Hi-Fi and Best & Less relocation.
New Fashion mall connecting to David Jones.
New outdoor dining precinct.

[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
This will take the total gross lettable space to 152,198 - making it the seventh largest shopping centre in Australia.
Sephora is also a possibility.
I reckon H&M and Uniqlo will be a definite, Marion is the perfect market for them. H&M will probably take over the largest mini major space.6 mini majors including 4 new ones (i'd assume H & M, Zara, Uniqlo and Apple).

Boom gates to be installed as well - so paid parking here we come
Studied Civil Engineering - graduated 1995 - now working in IT.
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
For most people that should be a non-issue - especially as it'll still be free for the first 3 hours one would suspect. If you want to make a day at the shops, the fee for 4-5 hours is generally a token amount ($3 for 4 hours or $5 for 5 hours at West Lakes) as the paid parking is designed to deter commuters using the car park.
Won't stop the media whipping up faux-outrage over boom gates going in though.
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
Yeah I think H&M and Zara would be 2 of them, other 2 I would guess Sephora and JD Sports who would want to expand to SA, plus relocation for JB Hi Fi and Best and Less.
Outdoor Dining area similar to TTP also, probably matching the formula there since it seems to be doing well. Lot of licensed seating areas by the looks of it. Also good to see lot of natural light into the lower mall through the voids. Could be the beginning of the end for the beloved Statue of Liberty and fake New York skyline lol

[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
Having a look at the plans Apple woudn't need a site as big as the "mini majors" Probably one of the two corner tenancies on the southern intersection where the new Big W entrance would be.
[PRO] Re: Westfield Marion (Extension)
This is really exciting news, hopefully they can start this soon as the northern part of the centre is looking quite tired. I'm happy that they are rebuilding the northern parking deck as there are a lot of issues with it, including lots of bumps where the expansion joints are.
The new northern pedestrian link will also improve connectivity to the train station. The extra shade will be welcomed.
