I still think the most elegant solution to the 230/232 problem is to just split them and have one run down all the way down Days Road to Torrens Road and the other run further down Regency Road and then through the backstreets on the East side of South Road and then onto Harrison Street. Something like:

251-254 via Hawker Street, South Road, Regency Road
230,232 via Torrens Road, Regency Road

Yeh because back streets are designed for regular bus services, and I’m sure locals would love the sound of a roaring bus stopping and going past their houses.jorcoga wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 2:38 amI still think the most elegant solution to the 230/232 problem is to just split them and have one run down all the way down Days Road to Torrens Road and the other run further down Regency Road and then through the backstreets on the East side of South Road and then onto Harrison Street. This isn’t a CBD it’s suburbia.

Several bus routes go through suburban streets, Rev. Look at the Network Map on the AdMet website.

The question would be if these streets are suitable for a large bus, including articulated ones. I drove in that area recently and some of these streets on the map were a bit narrow, and on street parking would need to be removed.
[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
Just a thought bubble, have they considered having 2 way traffic on the service road? Implementing it at the Torrens and Regency intersections might be a bit tricky though.
[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
Unless you mean 2 way traffic on both sides, it would be impossible. The whole point of these service roads is to enable access to the existing properties and side streets off South Road, so if only one side has the service road it would render the other side cut off from access.
[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
That would make for rather more complex interchanges anywhere that there should be on/off ramps from the freeway as the service road lane nearest the freeway would be travelling in the opposite direction.
[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
Yeh I know, but they shouldn’t.
There’s enough main and arterial roads for buses.

That's not elegant; it's convoluted! Requiring more buses on the City to Arndale section (so effectively preventing some of them from using the freeway) yet not significantly increasing bus catchment. And also forcing local car traffic to make big detours!jorcoga wrote:I still think the most elegant solution to the 230/232 problem is to just split them and have one run down all the way down Days Road to Torrens Road and the other run further down Regency Road and then through the backstreets on the East side of South Road and then onto Harrison Street.
The most elegant solution would be a box culvert underpass to take Pym Street under South Road. But as pipes and cables in the way would make it difficult to construct, a cheaper and almost as elegant solution is a half-thru steel bridge over South Road.

In non-bus-route related news, there's a new Darlington update out today

Well Aidan, stopping short of 1985 flying DeLoreans, what do you propose?

Saw the massive new Bunnings being built near Castle Plaza on South Rd set back only some 1-2m away from the boundary & road. I don’t know what the DTPI plan is - but heaven help if they have to acquire properties on either side for road widening. Based on what I saw it almost has to be a tunnel.
