Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
The former Commonwealth Centre at 55 Currie Street is up for sale with plans for what looks like a massive redevelopment including new street level retail & foyer.

There were quite a few students still staying in their accommodation building during this weekend - will be good to have more of them in the west end to go to Adelaide and Uni SA. But I cannot help thinking that (with the two 30 level + student buildings proposed for the East End) there could be an international student accommodation bubble to burst somewhere down the track.

Not sure where to put this, but Origin Energy finally have their sign up on No 1. KWS. Have to admit, considering how long this has been in the works, it's quite lacklustre.

I drove past yesterday and it wasn't finished, only the circle logo was up so I assumed there is more to come? Also its Suncorp.

Origin Energy left that building a couple of years ago. They are now based on Waymouth St.

QT hotels have announced today they have secured a site in Adelaide to open in 2021. I know of the Currie street site and there is also one on South Terrace in between Pulteney and Hutt earmarked for a hotel. QT are owned by Event group which owns the site of GU Film house on Hindley so could potentially also be there.

This could make a lot of sense if it were the Hindley Street site, would firstly explain why very little has been done with the tenancies in that precinct but would make sense from the perspective of maximising the site and retaining the cinemas also.Ben wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 2:52 pmQT hotels have announced today they have secured a site in Adelaide to open in 2021. QT are a great brand/hotel but I doubt it will be a “new” hotel building. They extensively re-design/refurbish existing hotels/theatres/cinemas. See list below.
There is a strong connection with Rydges (Event owns them) and I know Rydges - South Tce cnr West Tce was on the market. This could be the one. The Hindley St cinemas have only just been renovated/re-opened so I doubt that.
A wild card is the Mercure hotel on North Tce sold last year but I think it had an on-going lease. Other “long shots” - ABC site, a current State Admin building, Rockford or Riviera hotels, Ex-Heaven/Chemist/Empire site, Rosemont Hotel site and Former IMAX cinemas in Rundle St (which were on the market a year or so ago). Btw, the former Motel adjacent Casino was refurbished and is a now known as a MAC hotel.
QT hotels former lives -
Perth - Former Cinecity Cinemas
Melbourne - Former Greater Union
Gold Coast - Former GC international Hotel
Sydney - Former State Theatre
Canberra - Former Rydges Lakeside
Port Douglas - Former Rydges Sabaya
Wellington - Former Museum Art Hotel
Bondi - Former Swiss Grand

Is that the building along Bank Street with the leaky air conditioners? I wish they would demolish this building, or at least upgrade the AC units to ones that don't leak all over the pedestrians below.how good is he wrote:Btw, the former Motel adjacent Casino was refurbished and is a now known as a MAC hotel.
