Any update to this? Honestly, I hope it gets canned. More than happy to have Kaufland here as it provides competition, but not in the site they desire.
Yeh as the guy above asked, what's wrong with the site chosen? With the large footprint they require where else would be an ideal location for it?
I think it's a great location, especially if it's combined with the some higher density dwellings on that corner area. It might force the council/government to finally upgrade Churchill road between Torrens and Regency roads to be two lanes in each direction like it is north of Regency.

Kaufland can’t occupy the old Masters site at the airport?

There is a former never opened Masters at both Noarlunga Centre and Parafield

Firstly Kaufland buys/owns their sites and you would never see the airport site being advertised for sale (Federal land on leasehold). I don’t know the status on these other sites - are they even advertised for sale? Also it’s an illogical argument as the Kaufland sites are purpose built for their own requirements so why assume the Masters sites are even what they would want? Anyway we are still waiting to hear why the Prospect site is not suitable?

I thought they deliberately NARROWED Churchill road just 10 years ago? Wasn't this part of a beautification and traffic calming effort to encourage high density along this stretch? Surely turning it back into a major arterial is not desireable considering there is the option of Main North, or the Motorway to head north and multiple bus and train options nearby.

Well yes, but it didn’t make sense then and doesn’t now. Think about it...Increasing population density but narrowing the major road in the immediate area doesn’t make sense. Building a retail precinct which they’re still not finished with has added more traffic.
It is used heavily by vehicles between Regency and further Grand Junction and Torrens.
And there’s more housing going up on the same wider block as Kaufland which will add more traffic.
The local train stations aren’t exactly enticing to use.

There's a new article about Kaufland getting approval for their Prospect store but it's behind a paywall. Would someone be kind enough to post it?

A retail complex centred around a Kaufland supermarket on Churchill Road will get approval from the state’s assessment panel – despite the Prospect Council still voicing concerns.
The State Commission Assessment Panel will on Thursday approve the proposed $35 million retail complex.
It will comprise the 4052 sqm Kaufland store, 1607 sqm stockroom and amenities, a 280 sqm food hall and three supporting tenancies that will be a combined 245 sqm.
It will also feature 384 car parks, and 10 bike parks – below the required 31 bike parks under the land use plan.
When it was first proposed by the German giant last year, Prospect Council said it was far too big, poorly designed and out of step with the type of the development envisaged for Churchill Rd.
This was when the footprint of the supermarket was 6260 sqm.
Despite the reduction in size, SCAP agenda papers for Thursday’s meeting reveal that the council still holds concerns about the development.
This includes;
Accessibility of pedestrian access to the nearby train station,
Landscaping of the road to widen the area fronting Churchill Rd and Regency Rd,
The look of the development.
But DPTI senior planning officer Karen Ferguson said the development demonstrated “sufficient merit” to warrant approval.
“(It) will ensure the redevelopment of a key, under-utilised site in the inner metropolitan area,” she said.

The only concern I share it the lack of access to the train station behind. Shouldn't Kaufland be encouraging the idea of having both packing and adequate public transport connectivity available to their shoppers?

Thank you Levesque.
I'm very excited for this development and glad that it's finally getting off the ground.

Is that supermarket being planned for the site on the corner of Regency and Churchill where those apartments are also being built currently?
Will be interesting to see if Islington station gets an upgrades considering 2 new developments are being built right next to it. I was hoping it would have gotten an upgrade already given the new shopping centre but nothing has happened yet.
