There are issues with the Liberal version regardless of whether lanes are widened, and that you don't need to be an engineer to understand, e.g. turning right on to Springbank from Goodwood Road will still not allow all of the traffic that wants to get around to get around, even with two lanes (its a lane and a half already) and the majority of times you are caught back at the daws Road lights for at least one change before being able to proceed.

The plan appears to be to make it structurally just one intersection instead of two, despite the side roads not being aligned. In short the liberal plan is to replace a dog leg with a dog leg. It replaces two traffic light intersections with two slightly bigger traffic light intersections. Where's the improvement?
With the realignment, it would have not only removed one of the above, but allowed for more green time for certain directions.

If the liberals thing costs less and provides better outcomes (which they suggest it does), why wouldn't you do it that way?

I am not voting for or against a roundabout, but I note that the total traffic through this intersection/these intersections is very similar to the total at the Britannia Roundabout(s), based on totalling the traffic on each feeder road from http://location.sa.gov.au/viewer/?map=h ... 0&uids=138 The data does not separate direction of travel, nor break it down by hour of the day.

Just as a matter of interest there are now 3 turn right lanes from Fullarton Rd onto Greenhill Rd, up from 2 right hand turn lanes as from last Friday (22/3/2019).

The Britannia round about underpass was a Mike Rann idea in 2008,. I'm still waiting!

I was under the impression that the Britannia Roundabout issue was finished as is? Every time I've been through there lately the traffic has flowed and it's been easy to get through there.

According to the modelling done by DPTI, the upgraded dog leg will have more travel time benefits compared to a normal intersection.
