You are right, but I think the Greenstar rating is the reason why there are no balconies. I can only assume they don't want guests opening and closing doors...or jumping from them...Captain Howdy wrote:Is it just me or do the renders look a little 80s? And no balconies???

For those of us playing at home:
Looking north east from Grote Street:
Looking south east from Bowen Street:
The white roofed section of the church appears to be a later addition to the original structure. Going on the plans provided by Done, this will be demolished. There won't be much space between this and the bus terminal.
I hope the interior wont be as dated as the facade!

It's an interesting idea putting a hotel right in the middle of the Bus Terminal. Does the Bus Terminal also continue to the right of the church in your pic Adam? What will be built to the left? Is that also to do with the terminal or do the apartment buildings start here.

I believe that Done said he had a render of how this building will fit in with the bus station and the neighbouring apartment buildings. Can you please post that Done cos it is really hard to picture how this is going to impact on the Precinct.

[CAN] Re: #Proposed: 100 Grote st - Hotel - 15 floors - 56m
Any more news on this proposed development? Maybe an exterior redesign?

It was mentioned briefly in The Advertiser a week or three ago in a wrap up of highrise development in the city. They used the same render as was posted in the first page.

Is this project still going to happen? Read something about a leasing of the site coupled with the inference that the hotel project is no more.

From the messenger:
Church problems delay complex
Aaron Coultate

PLANS for a $15 million, multi-storey hotel complex in Grote St won't go ahead for at least a year, the developer says.
Heritage issues connected to the 82-year-old Church of Christ, in Gouger St, are behind the delay, after preliminary plans for a 14-storey hotel next to the Franklin St bus station were revealed in February.
The church was bought as part of the land parcel by developer Lelio Bibbo, with a view to converting it into a restaurant or bar.
But Mr Bibbo's spokesman said ``the church is heritage-listed, so there are issues that come with that''.
``Something has to give eventually, one way or another but we're looking at another couple of years until any building starts,'' he said.
The spokesman said initial plans were not to keep the church facade and renovate its rear.

Thanks for posting that beamer.
I wonder if that's a mistype?

I thought the plan was to keep the original front half of the church, and demolish the relatively modern back half.

I'll be happy to see this axed, and the extension to the church demolished and form part of the Bus Station Plaza. With the church converted into a restaurant/bar.
The current design looks old and theres already a heap of hotel developments in Adelaide.

Is it just me... or does that area seem alittle small for a hotel?

Someone in another thread said it was part of the Bus Station redevelopment. They obviously got it wrong. If these guys want to go ahead with a hotel good on them. Its location isn't the worst in town. You have China Town, the Central Market, Bus Station, possible tram extension, parking and easy access to the Airport, etc.crawf wrote:I'll be happy to see this axed, and the extension to the church demolished and form part of the Bus Station Plaza. You'll probably see better designs with time. The current design looks old and theres already a heap of hotel developments in Adelaide.
