Split from the mid-rise development thread. Thx Beamer for info and Al for render.
DA :
Application No:
DA/0551/2007
Address:
121-130 West Terrace, ADELAIDE 5000
Nature of Development:
Demolish existing buildings and construct an 8 level commercial building consisting of ground floor retail, commercial tenancies and carparking.
Report :
Eight storey green office plan
Louise Russell
04Sep07
PLANS for a $20 million green office block on the corner of Gouger St and West Tce have been lodged with the City Council.
The eight-storey building would have a glass facade for Parklands' views and a series of ``artistically random'' shades to keep the building cool and to maximise natural light.
``Nothing like this has been done in Adelaide before,'' architect Paul Pruszinski said. Underneath would be a First Choice bottleshop alongside other retail, replacing the existing Liquorland outlet. Upper floors would be a mix of office space and parking.
``West Tce hasn't seen a lot of development in the last few years,'' Mr Pruszinski said. ``Hopefully (this) will bring West Tce up to a new level.''
Lord Mayor Michael Harbison, intent on selling the city during an election, described the the area as the ``undiscovered terrace''.
``West Tce is a great opportunity it has fantastic Parklands' views,'' he said.

It looks great IMO, and will look a lot better than the current site. Now we need to get rid of the remaining car yards along West Terrace and replace them with buildings like that.

It looks as though this building has already found a tenant; the Police credit union.

The BMW showroom is a Car Showroom, not a Car Yard like CMI

haha well said.
But I dont think is actually going to rid west tce of CMI used is it? Because next to Liquorland are 2 small vacant blocks and a small area of CMI used.. then there is a road... then across from it is the majority of the car yard (which you can still see the toyota sign in the render) unfortunately.

I would like to see car showrooms, with excellent design stay in the city
But I want car yards out and other showrooms (such as Dreamland on Grote Street) out of the city!

Wasn't there some proposal for the Truscotts site some time ago? I can't remember what the proposal was though, some one refresh my memory unless I am imagining things.

I really like this building. West Tce has been neglected for so long.
Isn't Truscotts that building with the carpark above? Yeah that thing is a piece of shit.
