I guess the state bank collapse didn't help much but yes there seemed to be nothing much for quite a few yearsghs wrote:We've been waiting a lot longer than 10 years for this . Westpac house went up 35 years ago which is just about my entire life !! It really is a sad reflection on the state government and our politicians. The level of private investment in Adelaide over the last 35 years has been nothing short of embarrassing. I am sure many people on this forum shed tears about the state government and our politicians.HiTouch wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 10:45 amSurely there will be some sort of event or celebration for this (even if it's beers with the boys). It's been over a decade in the making. I remember being a 16 year old in 2008 asking why Adelaide didnt have a tall building and coming across this site (and the old site skyscraperlife) in which somebody explained it and how Bentham would be a gamechanger when it went up (which it never did). It's been so long in the making.
I can imagine Howie shedding a tear.
I remember spending the 90s interstate and in that time the only thing that went up was the building on Currie St that used to house Medicare
That's all changed hugely now
There is money , know how and the will plus necessity now

Was flying over the CBD last night and the impact these are having on our skyline are great (disappointed i didnt have a window spot to take a photo to share) - This and the others like Realm, Luminesque and the Festival Plaza Office Tower will have a huge impact on they skyline - cant wait to see them all (including aerial photos).
Government however can and should to more by returning the ZERO STAMP DUTY ON CBD APARTMENTS to attract more growth. They should rather than look at it as lost funding from stamp duty look at it as avoiding infrastructure/education/health/transport spending in reckless suburban sprawl developments.
But they should also ensure that the design and build of the apartments are of high standard.

I have been a very long time viewer of Sensational Adelaide over many and thought its time to contribute as I watch this one and our city grow!

The glass actually doesn’t look to bad there

Given Adelaidean and Realm are fairly set back in this airport view is it likely they may not appear in line with Westpac building when completed? Or is the ground slightly higher. Have marked up a red line where I thought they may top out around.

No they will appear lower on two counts - ground slopes away slightly and they are further away from that angle.

Not sure if my bearings are right, but I think Adelaidean might be blocked by Sofitel from that angle

My guess is that Adelaidean will be roughly where the top of the crane currently is (you can just make it out in your photo). Realm will appear slightly taller than that because it's closer to the camera but more or less at the same level. I guess Sofitel will look as tall as both of them from that vantage point given how much closer it is and the fact it's only ~15-20m shorter.
Forgive my terrible paint.net skills...

I suspect I might be in an overwhelming minority here, but I actually prefer Adelaidean to Realm. I like the treatment of the balconies a lot better, and as I said in an earlier post when viewed from a distance (ie North Adelaide looking back at the city) it looks fantastic.
Both Adelaidean and Realm are great additions to the skyline, and if the new Sofitel on Currie is true to its renders it will be the best of the lot. Exciting times!
