News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
Re: News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
The project at 17-19 Field St must surely include the brown brick building the extends down Wright Court that previously belonged to Angelakis Brothers. The so called car park is just a 2 car park where the Angelakris Brothers parked their cars. see Google maps at :

A small 2 story building at 278 Flinders St with the Pirie St apartment building in the back ground.

There is a full height mural being painted on the Southern wall of this building - will add a bit of colour to what is an otherwise drab development.EBG wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 3:29 pmTapley St off Gilbert St - update 25/5/2019. This project is nearly complete. All scaffolding has been removed, the north side has been painted 'Monument' (dark Grey) & the ground floor is being fitted out. Compare with previous pictures on 2/3/2019. click on pictures for bigger.

Minor works, but large impression: since last week, St Aloysius College has been painting white its block (from Angas to Wakefield St) of 80s red & blonde brick buildings. Not sure if white is a base for a mural or further works, but it casts a very different feel on surrounding streets.

Yep noticed this and think it looks horrendous at present. Will await finished product before full judgement.
Re: News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
I agree that the SAC building in Angus St looks very cheap and tacky. I saw it being painted by one of their own buildings and maintenance staff. I hope they don't use to paint pictures of cutesy kids as a school advertisement.
Re: News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
I mean the white could unify the ramshackle of unattractive 80s buildings, but I walked past again later today and saw the outlines of a purple (the school colour) ribbon stretching across the fencing. So a mural it appears set to become. The lot I've seen working on it were early-to-mid 20s kids who fit the description of either backpackers or an artist collective.

Is this the site of the RSB building? If so, not too happy because it's a nice building.Ben wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:24 pmDrove past this site today and there was a big sign advertising this development. No da has been lodged however. Corner pirie and Frome.

According to Google Maps this one will be built where Knapman House (RSB Building) and Frome Centre (SATAC Building) are currently. I have to say I don’t mind either of those buildings, the Frome Centre looks quite nice in an 80’s kind of way (especially the lifts that looked as if they were designed to look like the interior of the Death Star from Star Wars)Ben wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:24 pmDrove past this site today and there was a big sign advertising this development. Didn't they recently spend months renovating the entrance of the SACE building? You'd think if they were going to redevelop the site, they be going bigger and taller...Spurdo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:42 pmAccording to Google Maps this one will be built where Knapman House (RSB Building) and Frome Centre (SATAC Building) are currently. Re: News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
It’s not the SACE building, only RSB building on corner.
Re: News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
I would be much happier with this building being on the diagonal corner, the RSB building is a treasure, and this new proposal is a nice density filler. I don't think it has enough architectural merit to justify the destruction of such a lovely building.
