I agree. Both gonna be great for Adelaide, when you consider Westpac is our tallest now, i am happy that the Adelaidean will take its place, anything's better then brown.

Adelaide is a relatively flat isn't it? So wouldn't the height be even closer to Westpac House than this?

That's what I would have thought. Sloping is very gradual in some spots around the CBD (towards West Terrace, particularly along North Terrace), but it's pretty much level between Morphett Street and East Terrace.Patrick_27 wrote:Adelaide is a relatively flat isn't it? One of the best shots taken to date, can much better see the building in context here. Great job.
Ugly af building still

I wish the glass was highly reflective. And a more unusual colour. I feel the blue green tone is already fifteen years dated?

Ah yep nice one that makes sense. Have always wanted this pyramid view from the airport disrupted with more talls so its good there’ll be some density.phenom wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 5:09 pmMy guess is that Adelaidean will be roughly where the top of the crane currently is (you can just make it out in your photo). Realm will appear slightly taller than that because it's closer to the camera but more or less at the same level. I guess Sofitel will look as tall as both of them from that vantage point given how much closer it is and the fact it's only ~15-20m shorter.
Forgive my terrible paint.net skills...

I took this photo at lunch from the north western side of Hindmarsh Square. It should be quite imposing from this angle once it's topped out.

It's certainly not ugly in my opinion.

Adelaidean construction timeline update
Level 26 Poured last week
Level 27 Being Poured this week (weather permitting)
The building is likely to 'top out' (level 36) by the end of October
Residential Settlements are likely to occur March/April next year
The Hotel is still on track for a February opening

I've just had a look at http://location.sa.gov.au/viewer/ on the topographic map and Adelaide's high spot seems to be near the Calvary Hospital (50m) and in a south easterly direction. Everything else slopes away at varying rates with a little bump here and there.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 7:57 pmThat's what I would have thought. The run down North Terrace look something like -: NthTce/EastTce = 39m. NthTce/Frome=40m. NthTce/Pultney = 43m. NthTce/KingW = 41. NthTce/Victoria = 33m. NthTce/Morphett = 31m and NthTce/West = 35m.
The Adelaidean is right on the 42m contour line. The Realm is about 20% of the way between the 44m and 46m line and Westpac is very close to the 44m line and the contour spacing is quite large at that point so.
If I take the Westpac as 131.6m, not sure what the final heights will be for the Realm and Adelaidean but take their much discussed heights of 132m and 134m respectively with the contour levels added in, I'm guessing the Westpac is 175.6m above sealevel, and Realm and Adelaidean are both 176m above sea level.

Pretty good. The DA for Adelaidean says above sea level it will be 172.9m to roof, 175.5m to lift core, 177.5m to lighting rod.normh wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 8:37 amIf I take the Westpac as 131.6m, not sure what the final heights will be for the Realm and Adelaidean but take their much discussed heights of 132m and 134m respectively with the contour levels added in, I'm guessing the Westpac is 175.6m above sealevel, and Realm and Adelaidean are both 176m above sea level.

Thanks for that, so where do I find these DA's so I don't have to dig to figure out the visually tallest building not that anyone one can pick 40cm in 132m but it might give someone a different angle for bragging rightsSRW wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 9:26 amPretty good. What's the purpose of using sea level as a measuring point?

From SCAP when proposals are first assessed. The files expire, however. I just happened to still have this one in my downloads.normh wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 10:07 amThanks for that, so where do I find these DA's so I don't have to dig to figure out the visually tallest building not that anyone one can pick 40cm in 132m but it might give someone a different angle for bragging rightsSRW wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 9:26 amPretty good. It probably doesn't mean much to us on the street looking up, but it is a static and common reference point (AHD) for planning.

It gives an idea of what looks taller when viewed from a distance, such as the Old Toll Gate, North South Motorway or any other elevated view of the CBD skyline. Also there's bragging rights for whichever building ends up highest (which could be different to tallest).
