Looking from around 10km away, the current crane height looks like it matches the top of the Westpac antennae, which is the same level as the RTCC.
My theory (could be wrong) is that they've built up to current height in concrete and now getting everything in place for the crane to pop up above the RTCC. They will then build as fast as they can (probably in steel as it's faster) in order to complete the top of the building and bring the crane down within a 3-month window, as this is the typical length of time permitted to breach the RTCC or PANS-OPS with a construction crane. This is just a theory and could be completely wrong. It seems weird to me that the core has stopped and the floorplates have caught up - this is the only explanation I can come up with.

Westpac is at 68m above sea level. Adelaidean is at 53m. That's a significant difference in height.
I am fairly sure those numbers are not correct. The data I've seen has street level adjacent Westpac at approx 44mAHD and street level adjacent Adelaidean at approx 41mAHD. So only a few metres difference. We may be comparing different things though.
Your heights according to AHD should be correct. Both buildings should look the same height. In other words it will be hard to discern which is taller.

they both look pretty lonely, they need a couple of 90 or 80m buildings built around them

The shocking thing about your photo Goodsy and a previous one taken from Hackney Road of these two towers is the lack of trees in front of those parked cars. The fuckwits who did the O-Bahn tunnel ripped up all those mature plane trees. A curse on them. Sorry had to get this off my chest.
As for taller buildings HiTouch, perhaps even 100 metre towers would be best especially if they block out Dwell and any other student accommodations.

Just saw on TV partial floor collapse, am looking for more information (edit, bad choice of words, I meant I’ll look for substantiation and come back - I’m still looking).

Will there be a sensational adelaide catch up to celebrate this topping out ?
In my early 40's now, I was only a kid when Westpac house went up. I can barely remember it.
If it takes another 33 years for us to get another new tallest then many of us won't see it happen.
It's taken a long time for this month to come, a sad reflection on the SA government, however we should
make the most of it and have a drink.

Adelaide is 40 years behind. Perth had three 130 metre odd towers (AMP 131m, Allendale Square 132m, St Martins Tower 140m) by the end of 1978. If you include Governor Stirling Tower 110m, they had four towers taller than the Grenfell Centre. Although the Grenfell Centre when built was taller than anything in Perth. Ever since we've lost our way, but it makes no difference how long we wait. Building heights in Adelaide will always be dictated by our airport. So, until the airport moves to a different location or aircraft take off vertically, there's little chance we can match Perth or for that matter Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The SA government past and present have little fault. Economics will dictate if we get 150-200 metre towers in future.
Cheers
