Not really a good (for Adelaide) comparison, as Melbourne has had new tallest towers built, has a new tallest being built, and has a new tallest in the pipeline.
Probably a similar story in Brisbane.

Mate, grollo tower was proposed 20 years ago not 50 years ago.

If this goes ahead, traffic management is going to be an absolute nightmare being at the intersection of the city's two busiest streets. The construction gantries will have to take up one lane of each street. Major congestion bottlenecks will follow.

No left hand turn from Currie onto King William. I can see the Liberal government getting rid of the bus only lanes in response :lol:

Why would there be a "for lease" sign if the building is going to be knocked down eventually?

Obviously before it is knocked down there’s still money to be made. Remember, this hasn’t confirmed an operator yet, let alone gone to tender. Any new tenancy could be moved on in the time it takes to actually bring this to demo.

The former Adelaide Metro infocentre at the corner of King William and Currie streets has brandished a “for lease” sign for the past four months after the State Government vacated the building in September last year.

At the time, Transport Minister Stephan Knoll said the lease on the office, which provided public transport tickets and information, wasn’t worth extending and there was already development approval to turn the site into a high-rise building.

The State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) in 2018 approved plans for a 132.4 metre-high, 39-storey hotel, apartment and office building on the site, which sits across from Adelaide’s current tallest building, Westpac House.

The proposed build, designed by local architects Loucas Zahos for Equinox Property Group (75KWS) Pty Ltd, would be less than half a metre taller than Westpac House.

According to plans approved by SCAP, it would include 78 residential apartments and 266 hotel suites, as well as ground level commercial, retail and hospitality spaces.

According the leasing agent Negotiators Real Estate, the site is currently available for a six-month lease.

“The tenant left about four months ago when it was the Adelaide Metro office,” a spokesperson from Negotiators Real Estate told InDaily this morning.

“We don’t know when it’s going to (the development) start.

“It’s only a short-term lease until then.”

According to a report in The Advertiser last year, company 75 King William Street, which is owned by two Sydney-based directors and shareholders, owns the site for the proposed building.

The company reportedly paid $8.388 million for the property in July.

InDaily seems to have been a little bit asleep since 2018 - Westpac House is no longer the tallest building in Adelaide, and this building roposed to be only half a metre taller will still only be third-tallest.

I'm hoping this delay in starting this will mean the design will be revisited and this building will be bumped up in height to be Adelaide's tallest. I heard this will have an observation deck on the roof, and given the design and location of it, it seems it will have good design merit to be Adelaide's new tallest.

This could be wishful thinking but one can hope!
