Re: Crane Counter: CBD 15 | Metro 3| Total 18
Majestys theatre came down yesterday. A few more to come down over next month, East park, 1 skycity and possibly a couple of the smaller developments.
Not much in the way of starting. Could be some cranes at the festival Plaza site otherwise it could look a bit sad for a few months atleast.

With East end down today. Just 12 cbd cranes with another 4 to come down by Christmas and none expected to go up it’s not a great time for cbd development. I think things have really gone down economically since the change in government. I hope they notice this and make some policy changes or next few years could be grim.

So you think it’s unlikely Twin St, 269 north terrace or penny place will get cranes before years end?
Re: Crane Counter: CBD 12 | Metro 4| Total 16
Nope, Only penny place has started site works but they would be many months from a crane.
Re: Crane Counter: CBD 12 | Metro 4| Total 16
Haven’t seen the site for awhile. Could be possible but think there’s a lot of excavation to be done first? Another possibility is festival plaza but not sure of the timing for those cranes.

Historically at least, we've always had information known to us when the next building crane will go up with a month or two notice.
Since the March 2018 election, and especially this year, proposals have been few and far in between compared to more recent years. Even the proposals we've known about haven't really had any activity since announcement, which is usually not a good sign.
Christmas / New Year is traditionally a quieter period with the shutdown, so there's no point in putting a crane up for a month only to have it sitting there for a whole month inactive (which the construction company still has to pay a fee for - whether that's calculated by days, weeks, I don't know exactly).
The unemployment figures for SA have been very volatile and are higher than the rest of Australia, which is also not a good sign economically. It creates uncertainty and reduces business confidence, leading to lower investment.
Ben isn't a wanker, he's just stating facts.

To add to my previous post, the policy directions of this Government are quite markedly different to the previous Labor Government. Liberals have kicked up quite a shit storm with the land tax aggregation issue, which has infuriated the property council and business investors. I'm no expert on the matter and I don't understand the details of it, but it is clear that the optics of it doesn't look good at all, and given their influence, has impacted on confidence.
What is different also is that Marshall has a more backseat approach to the media, reactive rather than proactive. Weatherill and Rann were certainly at the forefront week in week out. Whether it was for the right reasons or not, but the optics of it made it look like things were being done and projected confidence. With Marshall, he doesn't exactly project confidence and gives the impression not a lot is being done either.
To the average punter, you can tell there's a different vibe with this Government. It's not the same and personally, I don't think it's for the better. Others may disagree, but let's not resort to personal attacks.

I deleted the personal attack as it added nothing to the discussion. I am not motivated by any political party and i have in fact voted for both Liberal and Labor at various times depending on the government ect so do not mistake my post as politically motivated as it was not. I was simply stating the facts after following the Adelaide construction market since 2005 and seeing the various peaks and troughs.

Yes, the removed post was both unjustified and needlessly hostile.

A number of users on this forum can't seem to get their point across without throwing in a few personal jabs. If you can't make your point in a constructive manner w/o attacking the individual - dont say anything at all. Fact is both new proposal numbers and proposals proceeding to construction have dropped off since the start of 2018. Why that is is obviously a varying set of reasons/opinions - but for all we know the change in government could play a part in that.
Apartment living has copped a lot of negative media attention for a number of years now. The spotlight has been cast on flammable cladding, shoddy building works and 'off the plan' apartments projects that never come to fruition. Even in Adelaide's small sample of recent builds, you have the following:
Vue tower with internal heating issues; Kodo with cracking during construction; Adelaidean with a partial floor collapse during construction; August Towers with legal/financial troubles; Wingfold/U2 off again, on again, off again saga; Mayfair failing to go ahead + a number of failed projects and smaller projects with issues. Couple that up with some of the well advertised dramas apartment buildings have had interstate/overseas (opal/mascot towers), this would surely be enough to turn some buyers away from the apartment market.
This surely has to hurt the reputation of apartment living/construction industry. The media nowadays loves a good 'high-rise horror' story.
$20 on Penny Place to be the next crane up.

AFR article saying Adelaide reached a record 19 cranes last month. This does not add up to what we have here. I wonder if there are any metropolitan ones we are missing?
