COM: Glenelg Tramline Upgrade
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Photos from this arvo.
City West stop from Morphett Street Bridge. Very nearly complete bar some paving and the shelter.
And on the ground. Of note are the concrete blocks on the platform. These have been installed at all stops (including Victoria Square), these I understand are going to form part of the seating and have bolt holes in the top.
Detail of the traffic control lights at the eastern end of City West stop. Of note is the single aspect tram light.
Another single aspect tram signal, this time protecting UP trams (to Victoria Square) on the single track section by holding down the DOWN trams (to City West).
Paving work still not quite yet complete on North Terrace.
New intersection at Victoria Street now fully operational.
Railway station stop. You can again see the concrete block just behind the caternary mast.
Rundle Mall stop virtually complete.
Some of the new gardening in the median strip south and north of Rundle Mall stop.
New handrails installed at Rundle Mall stop. Pirie Street stop has also got these installed.
Laying down some compost just north of Pirie Street stop.
Pirie Street stop itself, very well barricaded indeed.
More work on the median strip, just outside of the GPO behind me.
Work on the new garden bed between the path and the track.
New automatic point equipment with the radio antennea prominent in the first shot.
New tram signals installed.

Cheers Will.
One thing I have noticed is they're not installing target boards around the majority of traffic lights, especially any set with more than three lamps. Anyone know why this is? (Target boards being the bits of plastic around the lights so they're easier to see when the sun is behind them)

Are the ends of the yellow beam in the shelter going to be filled or covered? It doesn't look very attractive with the hollow exposed.AtD wrote:

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
I haven't read back through this topic, but does anyone know when the tram overpass at South Road is scheduled to start?
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
From what I know, the tramway overpass over South Road would be complete by 2010-2011 or there abouts.
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
I'd imagine that they'd be covered and that they're just waiting to install the lighting etc so that they can pull through/access the wiring before they do it.SRW wrote:Are the ends of the yellow beam in the shelter going to be filled or covered? Not only that but for the sake of preventing corrosion after some heavy rain If the water seeps into the beam and settles down rusting away at the frame, then that shelter is buggered.

i would asume said beam is galvanised steelWill409 wrote:Not only that but for the sake of preventing corrosion after some heavy rain If the water seeps into the beam and settles down rusting away at the frame, then that shelter is buggered.
Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Here are some shots of further testing tonight.
H Types 367/351 successfully made two trips to the single track section near the Morphett St bridge.
Staff were verifying that the traffic lights were triggered by the tram and all appeared to work well.
Testing began in Victoria Square around 8pm and concluded on North Tce at 10:15.

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
I was for once able to photograph the test run and was also with BillD from North Terrace to City West. Great fun running against the H set all the way from Victoria Square, best exercise I have had in a while! In addition to these photographs, I shot off a stack full of video (probably 8 minutes worth along the whole line) which will be on youtube later on this week. Going on about video footage, there was another media camera on site last night so keep your eyes peeled to the news. I forgot to take my tripod with me but I did manage to get some good, clear shots but they were hard. Try having a camera with a wide aperature, long shutter time and then have a strong pulse in the hand!
At the railway station on the return run, I bumped into Rod Hook himself and briefly talked to him about the extension. Driver familiarisation runs will be starting from this Saturday. Unlike the test runs, these driver training runs will be during daylight hours everyday from Saturday with between 1-3 runs planned a day. That is what I was told anyway by him. Anyway, photos.
Stabled at Victoria Square while awaiting clearance into the platform.
Got to love the prospect of going to City West in an interior like this.
North end of Victoria Square about to cross Franklin/Flinders Streets.
Outside of Town Hall.
At speed.
Pirie Street stop.
Currie/Grenfell Streets.
Outside Rundle Mall stop.
Outside State Parliment.
Outside the Railway Station. Notice the ute in the forground of the seconf photo, that was pacing the trams along the whole route with some tech's in it.
Morphett Street Bridge. This was as far as the trams went on the first test run (there were two last night, BillD and I got the first one), however, on the second one later on, the trams went into City West to test both platform 'roads'.
Outside Railway Station stop on the return run.
About to negotiate North Terrace corner.

Re: Glenelg Tram Line Upgrade
Video footage of the test run. Please excuse the spelling of Hindley Street, I only released the mistake after it was uploaded onto youtube.
