If you really want to see how much of an impact this has, and on a sunny day especially, view it from War Memorial Drive near the Zoo.

Those red gums really do look shabby.

I'm usually all for preserving trees but there is no uniformity to any of the trees along this section of the river. Not like it use to be with the oak trees that once lined the banks.

With the right lighting this is going to look spectacular at nights. The festival centre needs to lift its game with that shabby laser light look thing they've got going on.

Stunning pic, looks amazing at night. Agreed those trees need to be cleared they have no place along the riverbank.

Adelaide is known to have hot summers , we need more trees along the riverbank not less trees

Yeah i think more trees. When you have young kids that burn easily, the tree allow you to stay longer.Eurostar wrote:Adelaide is known to have hot summers , more shade the better along the riverbank the better in my opinion hence we need more trees not chop em down

However, gum trees are not the right tree.dingies1985 wrote:Yeah i think more trees. Gum trees maybe native but they are next to useless for shade. With out increasingly hotter temps not a great idea. Great for the bush but not in the city

Not just useless for shade they are also bloody dangerous in strong winds. We need shady trees that can survive heat and are flexible in strong winds. Shade and safety very important. Then line them up properly along the whole river bank. Also for decoration palm trees. Not necessarily those you find on tropical islands but those with stubby trunks. Perhaps lined up so they hide the carparks under the convention centre. But if they select a nice shady tree that may also do the job. But please no more gum trees of whatever variety.ozisnowman wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 12:09 amGum trees maybe native but they are next to useless for shade. All this to complement what is starting to look like a nice riverbank. More work to go but getting there.
Cheers
