Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Does anyone know if the new International area will have its own separate security check point [ie conveyor belt to x-ray bags, body scan] or will they use just the existing area and then you keep walking left, if so it will be quite a walk.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
The same setup as now will be used, but the entrance for the international area will move to just past where the Virgin Australia lounge is now.how good is he wrote:Does anyone know if the new International area will have its own separate security check point [ie conveyor belt to x-ray bags, body scan] or will they use just the existing area and then you keep walking left, if so it will be quite a walk.

The current security checks/passport control/emigration are on Level 2 opposite the Virgin Australia Lounge. The new security checks/passport control/emigration will be on Level 1. You will have to walk past the current Virgin Australia Lounge (which will move into the corner of the new extension) and head towards Gate 14. The escalators to Level 1 and International Departures will be located there between the new Virgin Australia Lounge and Gate 14. When cleared the security checks you will either go to the Common User Lounge (Level 1) or go to a set of escalators or lifts up to Level 2 Departures and through the Duty Free Shop and onto Gates 16, 18, 19 and 20. All dedicated to International flights.Norman wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:14 pmThe same setup as now will be used, but the entrance for the international area will move to just past where the Virgin Australia lounge is now.how good is he wrote:Does anyone know if the new International area will have its own separate security check point [ie conveyor belt to x-ray bags, body scan] or will they use just the existing area and then you keep walking left, if so it will be quite a walk.

Actually, only Gate 18 will be dedicated for international flights, the others will remain as dual use gates.Ho Really wrote:The current security checks/passport control/emigration are on Level 2 opposite the Virgin Australia Lounge. Of course they will when there are no international flights and will continue to do so until there is further expansion of T1. These Gates are designated as such because they can be closed off for access to Immigration.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Hmmmm, with TEx wrapping up over the next year or two. Any idea what will the next stage feasibily be?
Have checked the Airport's Master Plan for the near future and it looks like an expansion of the south-west wing, plus more gates in the north-east wing too. I do wonder where exactly will the Long-Term Car Park be moved to as well, don't think that was mentioned yet in the Master Plan. It is a long document, so I only had a quick skim across all the details.
Maybe the next project might be the Eastern Link Road to Richmond Rd, think that was announced or rumoured earlier this year.

Anyone with updated photos of the Terminal 1 extension?
In the meantime here are a couple of grab shots from the Terminal Expansion Update, December 2019.
Also heard the common-user lounge ready in 6 months.
Cheers

Media Release
CheersTerminal Expansion Update: First new retailers to open next month
Wednesday 29 January, 2020
The first section of the expanded Adelaide Airport terminal will open to customers from next month with six retailers opening their new stores.
Penfolds Wine Bar and Kitchen, Boost Juice, Lego Kaboom, Airport Pharmacy, Soul Origin, and Precinct Adelaide Kitchen will all open on February 26, 2020.
The newly constructed retail concourse is part of Adelaide Airport’s first major expansion works since the current terminal was opened in 2005. The terminal expansion will see a complete refurbishment of retail areas, resulting in a more than 80 per cent increase in the overall size of the terminal’s retail and dining precinct across domestic and international areas.
Adelaide Airport recently announced Penfolds and Maggie Beer will be among the iconic home-grown Australian brands and identities who will be part of the terminal’s new retail and dining offering, with the Penfolds in-airport concept the first of its kind globally. The airport will also welcome popular local food identities Poh Ling Yeow and Callum Hann, who will each bring their own special flavours to the new look dining precinct.
Virgin Australia will be opening an expanded lounge offering an exciting new experience for its customers.
International upgrades will include a second, longer baggage belt for arrivals, more space for emigration and immigration processing, expanded security screening, a larger duty-free precinct for arrivals and departures, and expanded dining and retail options.
Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Mark Young, said the presence of a number of iconic South Australian brands as well as the ultimate location of the Vickers Vimy aircraft on the ground floor of the expanded terminal will deliver a real sense of place for passengers.
“Next month will see the first of several staged openings of the terminal expansion and refurbishment between now and project completion at the end of 2021,” Mr Young said.
“In addition to the new retail areas, we’ll also start to see the relocation next month of airlines and regulatory bodies to new office space on Level 1 of the terminal. This in turn will allow us to commence demolition of Aviation House adjacent the current arrivals and departures halls ahead of the next phase of construction.
“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as these construction works continue. We recognise there is some unavoidable disruption for travellers in the short term, but we think the end result will be exciting for all of our customers.”
A time lapse of construction is available at: https://www.adelaideairport.com.au/corporate/about- us/projects/terminal-expansion-project/time-lapse/
