In time it'll go if not rebuilt into something better and I suspect Gawler Chambers will end up a part of whatever replaces it.

Small problem I think is Adelaide Uni has a (long) lease on the top floor/s of the Parc building for it’s Gawler Place campus - University Senior College.

As much as I'd love to see the site re-purposed, ACC have just spent a considerable amount of money resurfacing the UPark. If they were considering selling it within the next 10 years I doubt that would have happened. Plus it looks like they're planning to clad or light the facade based on the large number of holes that have been drilled in it. Hopefully Gawler Chambers won't be empty for the next decade

I don't think ACC own the carpark, I know obviously they are the tenant [U-Park]. I also remember it was on the market in 2016 but I don't think/not sure it sold.

Personally I think we could go much further and name an entire suburb after West Thebarton.
Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects
I find it quite bemusing to be naming things after people, whom by and large are actually quite embarrassed to be associated with Adelaide.
Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects
Really? Jimmy Barnes, while hating Adelaide when he left because of all the bad things that had happened to him here, later said in answer to a music writer's comment that Cold Chisel's music had a distinctly Melbourne feel, that he feels his music has a distinctly "Adelaide feel". It's in his book "Working Class Man".
The Angels, and Dave Gleeson in particular, are proud of their Adelaide roots.
cheers,

It does indeed seem to work much better now. But people still travel by taxi, and people still need to be dropped off and picked up. Gawler Place used to be a very good location for that. Has this activity been displaced into inferior locations, worsening the problem overall?Patrick_27 wrote: As far as I've seen and experienced, entering and exiting the carpark has never been so easy. I think condensing the amount of road traffic in Gawler place has done wonders for this carpark because they don't have to compete with people whizzing in to drop someone off, taxis etc. It's now primarily for access to the carpark.

I will always have a vendetta against carparks, given one replaced this beauty on Rundle/Pulteney Street:
and we were left with this:
Not only are they eyesores, but most of them probably replaced buildings that would be of supreme value or heritage significance today.

I went in a wonderful tour before leaving Adelaide in October and I found out then that this is what was before and I was so sad. The car parks look trash. Ugh
