CLT (cross laminated timber) is being used widely in commercial applications around the world. This is a step forward in achieving greater sustainability. Perhaps it is surprising to some people in Adelaide as it has been used less here than in other cities, but expect to see more of it. It isn't the finished surface for the building - it is the structure, which will be concealed by architectural finishes, just like any steel or concrete structure would be. Fire rating is achieved with fire-rated plasterboard, similar to what would often be done for a steel structure.
A key driver for this project was minimising the seismic mass, as the hotel relies on the existing seismic stability system and there is a limit to how much extra mass can be added.

CLT does have fire resistant properties... the outside chars (sacrificial) and protects the inner layers when subjected to fire.Neko Neko Peko Peko wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:33 pmDoesn't CLT have fire resistant properties too?

It looks like the kind of building where a couple of cheeky AO stakeholders rushed through the design and planning without any consultation from outside parties for a quick buck. Oh wait that’s exactly what happened!

I would hate to think about how poor the sound proofing in this hotel would be - if your staying there you better have a damn lot of drinks so you can sleep it off.

Just showing how what’s been built so far fits into the render:

Nothing says luxury like staying in a plywood box! No doubt those behind this project will pick up some awards for 'successfully ruined the aesthetic of a great city stadium'.

Apparently anyone can have one of these hotels....get down to your local IKEA and head to the "hotel" section.
Choose the style you want and pick up the appropriate flatpacks on the way out.
Bingo! Instant hotel!
