They should be public space that offer South Australians things that the typically market driven private businesses could not offer. It is not just roads for normal business, we already have those roads.

I am no purest and fully believe each idea needs to be considered on its own merits.

I see no massive benefit from The Crows being at the Aquatic Centre site. It will do near zero to benefit local business as there is nothing local to it. I am very confident the council can afford to build 2 basic pools as shown and make enough money from them. That is a massive downscale of the facility that is there now.
There is just no reason at all to accept what is on offer. There is no win for the community and in return you give a corporate free land and free right to income generated from a required public service.
Why do families need to line The Crows bank account for their kids to learn to swim?
Misinformation from Start to finish
You have no idea what you are talking about
Suffice to say the council retains ownership of the land
The Crows would lease it from the council
The new facility would have a lesser footprint than the current building
No. The council is not interested whatsoever in having anything to do with maintaining the current site or building a new one
The public will have full access to the new facility as it does with the current one
Technically speaking the NRAH Festival Theatre Exhibition Centres Adelaide Oval Memorial Drive Casino Bio-medical Centres etc etc etc etc are corporate entities built on parklands
You're post is reactionary misinformed drivel at it's best

Spot on citywatcher, there's nothing wrong with the crows plan. Bring it on!
Just sick of people proffing up an ideological argument
Ideaology won't keep the pool open
If they have a better idea that will generate the tens of millions required over the years to build , run and maintain a facility now's the time to hear it
I'm guessing there is none
Just a bunch of privileged old white people whinging

To be sure it is the best outcome, the ACC could take the site to an open (international) tender. So the AFC proposal competes with all/any other proposals. It would be interesting to see who is willing to spend say $65m or more
on a building on council/public owned land?
And yes, I know, $15m is Fed Govt money.

I don’t mind the Crows plan, however the leisure pool components must at least replace and improve upon what is there currently, no less. This is the most popular part of the Aquatic Centre.

Spaa, steam room and sauna must also be included.

It is laughable to suggest Adelaide, Prospect, Walkerville and Charles Sturt can not afford a joint facility.

What I see is Adelaide getting annoyed it is propping up freeloading neighbouring councils.
And then The Crows decided they wanted super cheap premium inner city land which they could get by simply renting out their basic pools when not in use by them.
It is win win win for Crows.

.
The problem you have is you've created an option that doesn't and won't exist. Those other councils aren't going to magically chip in.

You've also forgotten the remediation cost to the ACC when the Crows walk away and they have to tear it down. Something in the millions they don't want to cover.

The Crows offer is a good one for the council, everyone can see that.

Just hurry up and built it FFS stop pandering to these imbeciles.

If it delivers significantly less facilities than the current centre, then it is not superior, regardless of a shiny new building.

The Crows are the ones that proposed they want to build on the site. The ACC didn't contact The Crows saying "we need you to build us a new swimming center".
It is for The Crows to show what they propose.
And they have shown that. They are offering 2 basic pools in a smaller facility.
You are foaming at the mouth that 2 basic pools in a smaller facility is an amazing deal that Adelaide needs now.

You guys are confused and think the swimming center is closing and it isn't. The council stirred and said they are losing lots of money and to rebuild it to its current level appears out of reach for the ACC aka "poke poke nudge nudge other councils and state government".
The council hasn't said they can not afford to build or run a swimming center.

You're a trip
Within the space of a couple of paragraphs you say it was the Crows who made the approach then you later insinuate that the council put out feelers for such approaches
You also insinuate that the Crows proposal isn't much more than a couple of smaller pools and in the same breath state that the council on it's own couldn't afford to do much more than that if it went it's own rebuild anyway
Which leads you to say with this in mind the council wanted outside approaches, but the Crows in making such an approach , you and the other whingers proceed to sink the boot into them for obliging with their propsal
You have no argument
Just rhetoric
Please state for us what any council proposal would involve and how they would acheive this

Maybe the time has come for Adelaide to consider becoming another Brisbane, in the way local government is managed.

Brisbane consolidated their 20 or so LGA’s into 1 mega LGA to reduce costs, reduce local infighting and streamline local government decisions for the better good of a wider community. They did this decades ago. That way the whole metro area has skin in the game. The current LGA model in Adelaide seems to be doing the opposite.

If wider Adelaide was 1 LGA, then proposals like this that only sit inside the current ACC boundaries, would now genuinely & financially affect everyone – the current system of a few contributing to big ticket items or being held to hostage by others seems outdated.

I'd love to see more councils amalgamate, but we'd never see one the size of Brisbane here as it'd rival the power of the state government. I think probably 5 LGAs across the metropolitan area would work.

In the meantime, it's definitely time to pick up the old idea of making councils bordering the parklands pay an open space levy to contribute to their upkeep.

Again, the Crows haven't got a propsal for the swimming centre because the council hasn't told them what they want.

The council didn't ask for a swimming centre to be built, The Crows said they would build a swimming centre.

There is no tender or specs because there is no request for anyone to tender.

It is 100% on The Crows to show what they are proposing. The council can then go to the community and ask if they support the proposed plan.

If the council do ever decide they are going to tender for an external party to replace the swimming centre they will give their requirements.

I am going to give you a gift of building my house on your land to replace your aging house. My family will live there for generations until I see fit to leave. I also will be charging your visitors for the right to use the kitchen.
You can continue to live on the ground floor but I will require exclusive access to portions of the backyard for many hours most days for much of the year. I know you do not currently use the backyard all the time so I see no issue there.

Can you please kindly advise what I am designing for you on the ground floor in this trade?
