Make no mistake, when the State Govt. started planning and spending for the whole Riverbank/North Terrace/ nRAH/Adelaide Oval 10 years ago, they were doing this convinced that the mega multi-billion dollar expansion of Olympic Dam was going ahead and all the economic spin-offs from that economy changing project. They were already committed to much of it when BHP pulled the pin, but (thankfully) pushed on anyway. If that wasn't taking a risk then I don't know what is and it's probably why the Govt. might have to penny pinch from here on in.

Penny pinching does not really explain the overall layout though. Or the complete miss match of theme for buildings crammed so close together. Or the poor/ inadequate and inconsistent landscaping and maintenance of areas already completed. Or the fact that the under croft car park takes up a large part of the ground level facing the riverbank near the rowing sheds... the list goes on.

Both - the columns and core for the office tower run through the basement carpark.

The area looks like it will be very crowded, i dont like the tower behind the parliament house either (that'll be like putting a tower next to the Australian Parliament House)

This is what I don't like about the project. Other buildings shouldn't look out of place compared to parliament.

With appropriate architectural treatment and design, it's possible for it to not look out of place.

Unfortunately, most of us here have no confidence in this occurring.

Everything around parliament except government house and the train station building is out of place compared.
Is someone going to seriously say the Intercontinental fits in?
Or the new casino extension?
Or the festival theater?
Oe the crap across the road?
How about the riverside centre?

The out of place argument bolted a long long time ago.

The buildings you mention are built and reflect the 1900s, 1970, 1980s, 1990s, 2020 etc. Combine this with different owners/stakeholders all with different agendas and all in a confined environment and I can't see much alternative to the outcome we have got.

Are there any details plans/renders/ dev application for the office tower? I understand there was a difference approval process here

The buildings you mention are built and reflect the 1900s, 1970, 1980s, 1990s, 2020 etc. Combine this with different owners/stakeholders all with different agendas and all in a confined environment and I can't see much alternative to the outcome we have got.

The railway station and parliament house were both built at the outset of the 1900s? Before many modern building technologies and styles were introduced. For a newer building to not be "out of place" would cost a tonne to match the materials used back in the day, and we'd continue have a city full of buildings no higher, innovative or livable than those originally built during Adelaide's settlement..

The only way to stop new buildings being "out of place" is to not build them at all... or for buildings to be designed more sympathetically with heritage in mind? I am not sure what people exactly mean when they say something is out of place?

It just takes more than an ounce of creativity, facades can be whatever they need to be.. Her Majestys Theatre redevelopment proves it. It's not as if they're putting in a 1920's floorplan with 1920's electrical and HVAC systems
