[CAN] 51 Pirie Street | 94m | 21 Levels | Hyatt

Pretty meh, although that rooftop activation looks really good
[CAN] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 93m | 21 Levels | Hyatt
I don't mind the ground level.....don't mind the rooftop activation....but that glass wall between floors 2-20..…!!!

Ffs.
This contributes less to the streetscape and skyline than the previous design and makes the justification for demolishing the local heritage place even more tenuous.

Extremely dissapointing compared to the previous iterations of this. Such a shame, this had such great potential. The feeling of dissapointment is enhanced by the fact the existing heritage facade will be demolished, with the result of very little street activation or enhancement. Such a waste.
The ground level diagonal line also just copies the sofitels podium! I know it's due to budget cut backs, but I know something more inspiring can be done!

On the bright side, these muppets won't ever actually build anything on the site, so...

Looks sleek and smart. A great contrast to all the concrete buildings surrounding it. Well done.
[CAN] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 93m | 21 Levels | Hyatt
It looks like a "golden" version of the "Black Stump" office building in Grenfell Street. Too fat and thick for my taste, no visual relief from the "wall" look.....

I dont mind. I've been on this forum a while now and can just imagine just a few years ago most people would be salivating if this was proposed. With everything going on right now this is a pretty good outcome
[CAN] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 93m | 21 Levels | Hyatt
Not that bad, dedinitely not great.
Perhaps the front corner with the 'canopy', that break could extend up that corner of the building and that point at the top could be broken up into two?

Pretty significant downgrade. I'm prepared to bet the farm that we will end up with brown glass too, not sure who they are kidding with the gold.
[CAN] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 93m | 21 Levels | Hyatt
The Westin around the corner is due to use similar champagne colouring.
Look, this proposal isn't atrocious on its own merits, it's just a frustrating downgrade on what was previously proposed and a middle finger to local heritage protections (arguments about façadism to the side). Honestly, this site has had like 5? designs now and only one bothered to incorporate the old state bank.
A lot of the designs we end up getting in Adelaide seem to belong to the 80s and 90s corporate aesthetic (like this), so in a funny way, we're really only getting the buildings now that we missed then...

I know it's been 11 years and isn't the same development anymore, but looking at the image on the first page of this thread compared to the latest is just hilarious.
