Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Gawler Line Electrification is progressing well, but there are some missed opportunities about the project.
Masterplanning was evidently very narrow. Consequently there seems to be a lack of provision for station upgrades. North Adelaide, Ovingham, Dudley Park, Islington, Kilburn, Dry Creek, Greenfields, Parafield Gardens, Salisbury and several more to the north need general modernisation and improvement to amenity and access. Even any upgrade planned for Ovingham as part of the Ovingham Crossing project seems limited.
Already, missed opportunities for Islington are apparent. Station upgrades should have been part of the project.
The project has also highlighted just how much of a thorn in its side the ARTC freight line is. It is a massive barrier to communities along the line. However, a solution is a significant challenge. GlobeLink would have addressed this, but that proposal was let down by its other features.

The old Islington Workshops line at Islington Station, the most eastern line could become a bus interchange, you could build a road from Davenport Terrace and come out near Hungry Jacks, you could also add stairs / lift to the bridge. This eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross the ARTC track.
Adelaide has so many terrible stations, design a simple station design and copy and paste it, a big roof and some protection from the elements, the newer basic ones like Chidda have a big roof but no wind protection.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Back when the project was just being announced, Gawler (and Barossa) locals were petitioning for Gawler Central station to be upgraded and pre-emptively grade separated into a cutting before Murray Street (see Seaford station and Griffiths Drive) so that the station would be ready for a line extension to Concordia or the Barossa and all the new works wouldn't have to be torn out; the cutting would simply continue to Murray Street and run underneath. Predictably, nothing happened.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:38 amGawler Line Electrification is progressing well, but there are some missed opportunities about the project.

A quick couple of snaps from late July of the entrance to the new pedestrian link to Adelaide Railway Station.

Islington should be a major interchange with buses from Regency Rd and Churchill Rd. Not to mention, it's also close to the shopping centres on Churchill Rd. Yet it's one of the most neglected stations!TorrensSA wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:51 amThe old Islington Workshops line at Islington Station, the most eastern line could become a bus interchange, you could build a road from Davenport Terrace and come out near Hungry Jacks, you could also add stairs / lift to the bridge. There were promising signs the current government was heading in the right direction with bus re-routs to interchange with trains, but sadly it looks like it was just a cost saving token excercise. You are correct that this is a major missed opportunity for an inner north interchange assisting with keeping busses out of Nirth Adelaide and inner CBD.

Is it looking like we'll get a rebuild of Hove/Warradale and potentially Brighton stations when the Hove crossing works are completed? I imagine either Hove or Warradale station will be demolished, and the remaining station are certainly in need of some repairs. Definitely an opportunity to bring Brighton station closer to Jetty Road than where it is now imo.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Your question might be better placed in the dedicated thread for the Hove Level Crossing Removal: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6949&start=45.mmosca447 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:04 pmIs it looking like we'll get a rebuild of Hove/Warradale and potentially Brighton stations when the Hove crossing works are completed? 5/9/20 picture of the masts between Dudley Park and Islington. There are some power supply lines in place but not the actual overhead train contact wires. This project seems to have gaps in certain areas with work more advanced in some areas.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
The entire line may have been separated into several work “zones” with separate teams and each team is working progressively within each section. Kind of like how the Northern Connector was one project split up into sections but all built at once.

This is pretty much it. Some areas have been a little more complex to excavate, tidy, etc. Overall, the project is between Adelaide and Salisbury for now.Spotto wrote:The entire line may have been separated into several work “zones” with separate teams and each team is working progressively within each section. An updated version of the Flinders Link Project Animation with a more accurate representation of what we'll see. They've also included the new Tonsley station and added buildings to visualise Tonsley Village and a built-up Laffers Triangle.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Is it a bit weird that there is a surface level greenway on the eastern side of the tramline past Tonsley, but when the elevated section starts, that greenway just abruptly ends and then there's a switchback ramp leading up to an elevated path on the western side — with the two not joining up. Why wouldn't you have the elevated path follow alongside the line all the way down?
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
I see that they have renamed Adelaide Showground back to Keswick and renamed Goodwood to Woodlands Park
