News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs
Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs
Sussed out a cool bar called 55ml off Gouger Street on Saturday and it was pumping.
www.55ml.bar
Great DJ and dynamic mix of customers. Had a laugh with the bar staff and hit some awesome brews and whatever else (the end of the night was a bit of a blur). Def recommend. A little bar like this could be in Barcelona or London or Berlin or Melbs. Unique but familiar. Real local, community vibe... something we all need right now. More of these, please!

News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs
“Gilbert Street welcomes new bar and eatery with $6 beer & wine
By Jackson Elliott on Sep 04, 2020
As we return to a somewhat normal reality here in Adelaide, new bars and cafes begin to pop up.
We’ve found a new bar for you to add to your inner-city list, John Doe’s Local Bar, Gilbert Street’s latest addition.
The bar has a focus on showcasing the best of South Australian produce, with most of what is sold coming from local producers.
John Doe’s Local Bar is also set to serve an extensive range of house wine, beers and spirits, all for $6 (although the bar won’t be able to serve alcohol until October due to liquor licensing issues).
John Doe’s Local Bar, opened by Bella Mercuri and her partner, is named after the alias used when the true name of a person is unknown, or being intentionally concealed by authorities.
The fit out is an eclectic mix of furnishings gathered from local suppliers and vintage stores.
While Spring brings with it warmer days, the nights still have that Winter chill, perfect for you to cosy up next to John Doe’s glorious fireplace.
In terms of food, John Doe’s is serving up some delicious looking muffins, croissants, toasties and coffee every morning, and light lunch options until 3pm daily.
John Doe’s uses locally sourced olives, cheeses and dips for their antipasto style nibbles.
When the bar does start slinging those $6 drinks, you will be able to make your own tasty bar snack platter.
Choose between nuts, housemade jerky and pork crackle, pretzels and more to create your ideal bevvy accompaniment.

Meat & Wine Co reveals look of Adelaide steakhouse on Currie St
An African-inspired design centred around four “boma” will greet diners when steakhouse The Meat & Wine Co opens its first Adelaide restaurant early next year.
The restaurant’s opening has been slightly delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis, but work is underway to transform the ground floor of heritage-listed Elder House on Currie Street, where the restaurant will open in the new year.
Dishes such as the boerewors sausage, cooking techniques and the dining space reflect founder Bradley Michael’s South African heritage.
Designed by Sydney-based Callie van der Merwe, from Design Partnership, the Adelaide restaurant will feature four circular areas enclosed by woven and knotted ropes and serving as semi-private dining rooms.
The Meat & Wine Co’s Adelaide restaurant will feature four semi-private dining spaces inspired by the African “boma”.
“These are based conceptually on the idea of an African ‘boma’ - a safe place for people or livestock traditionally constructed in woven twigs or branches,” Mr van der Merwe said.
“As the store has a very limited shopfront, with most of the store removed from natural daylight, we made the conscious decision to turn this into an advantage by curating spaces that will transport the patrons to a rich tapestry of African-inspired interior architecture.
“There is a concept widely known as the spirit of ubuntu, i.e. giving and sharing, and this is something that we try very hard to capture in each store.”
The Meat & Wine Co operates eight restaurants across Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
Its first Adelaide venue forms part of a multi-million-dollar transformation of heritage-listed Elder House, which will include a retail and hospitality arcade linking the building’s Currie St entrance with the Anster St laneway at its rear.
The Meat & Wine Co’s Adelaide restaurant will accommodate up to 195 diners.
The large 630sq m restaurant will accommodate up to 195 diners at any one time.
The Meat & Wine Co brand manager Troy Mattingly said while COVID-19 had delayed the restaurant’s opening, Adelaide had been on the chain’s radar for some time.
“We have been looking at site options to enter another market for a while, and with the success of our current eight locations in three states across Australia, we set our sights on Adelaide for its reputation of great dining venues, which we believe we can rival,” he said.
“We believe there is a large opportunity for a new premium steakhouse to enter the Adelaide market.
The African-inspired The Meat & Wine Co Adelaide restaurant will open early next year.
“We offer premium world-class produce, and products, which include our very own exclusive line of beef called the Monte Beef.
“In addition, we recently introduced a bold and innovative dry-age program that will raise our steak product to the next level, thus offering our guests both dry-aged or wet-aged steak.”
Elder House’s history dates back to the 1930s, and it was the long-standing headquarters of agribusiness Elders before the company’s relocation to 80 Grenfell Street in 2015.

I’m surprised we don’t have more of them in Oz tbh. They do so well in the UK. Appeal to a mass dining crowd and its great food.

The interesting part to me is the forecast link from Currie to Anster Street.

Rundle Street is definitely under serviced by burger bars.
Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs
That means that health cafe is now gone.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but it looks as though Electra House (the bar) has closed its doors... The interior has no furniture and it's looking ab it worse for wear.
Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs
That sucks their upstairs dining was great. Wasn’t a fan of down stairs on the weekend though.
Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs
There’s still some kind of activity going on in there, by the looks....Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 3:21 pmNot sure if it's been mentioned here, but it looks as though Electra House (the bar) has closed its doors... The interior has no furniture and it's looking ab it worse for wear.

Regatta's on the riverbank promenade will be closed permanently. The convention centre is turning it into meeting space instead and prioritising Home Ground as its hospitality offering. Article here: https://indaily.com.au/news/local/2020/ ... -its-race/
